I have a 12 yr. old Daughter that I would like to take off of Adderall XR . I wonder if we changed her nutrition intake (hate to use the word diet) would it make a difference?

You should definitely ask the psychiatrist who prescribed the medication this question. I doubt that there will be any nutritional changes that could have the same effect that Adderall would have. ADHD is not caused by diet, so it stands to reason that it could not really be treated with diet. Please do not take your daughter off any medication of this type without planning with the doctor first -- taking her off could cause very undesirable side effects.

I wouldn't take her off the medication. But I don't know how changing her nutrition could do her any harm! I think it could certainly help! especially like with vitamin C and stuff like that. Your water soluable Vitamins (C,B, and E) must be replaced frequently! With her being a child she probably wouldn't need as much as an adult, but we have to have vitamins to live! The vitamins will do her know harm unless they are the fat soluable vitamins. Some minerals can also be toxic in high amounts.

Well... I was on Ritalin from age 8 til 13 then I went to concerta from 13-16. And I kind of grew out of it.

My doctor also suggested to my mother that I changed my diet.. I did and I was taken off meds. at age 16.

Try it :)
