I suspect my partner has borderline personality disorder. He's finally agreed to see a professional about it so I want to make sure it's the right person.
Should he see a psychiatrist, psychologist or a counsellor? In my understanding, a psychiatrist can diagnose, use therapy and prescribe medication, whilst a psychologist can't prescribe medication.
The literature I've read about BPD indicates that medication is not always beneficial, that various forms of long term therapy in which the BP's relearn coping mechanisms and appropriate emotional responses is more appropriate.
Therefore, would a psychologist be sufficient? Money is an issue as he has recently lost his job again and I understand a psychiatrist is very expensive.
I have read other peoples questions and answers related to this. There seems to be a popular idea that we all have problems at times and that these people are often misdiagnosed. I am studying psychology(I've only just started) and I know this is real.
Advice?

hi everyone!,

I wanted to ask to see if anyone has similar experience? I got this very new job ..a permanent job and i have noticed that i cried alot just like the niagara falls lol its all new to me when i have this job since i had very tough life and i went through and i had alot of patience to find a good job and i found it then when i worked on a first day and came home after work, my eyes were pouring tears ...i never felt this intense before it was something i never felt before....because i was always struggling ..i know struggle is what its important in daily life. i beat anxiety and panic disorder ..i always never felt adequate or really fit in ...im glad i have accomplished this far...i wonder if any of you had this experience. i d love to hear your stories..thanks again !!!

about a year ago i was diagnosed with graves disease, which is a thyroid disease, and i was treated for it about 6 months ago by having my thyroid killed off with a radioactive iodine pill, and now i've been taking thyroid hormone replacement medication for about 6 months now. i was wondering what kind of effect thyroid diseases have on your weight. in about 2 years, i've gained 20 lbs (my lifestyle and diet have changed slightly, but not much), and i've been dieting and exersicing for 5 months now, but have only managed to lose 10 lbs. i lost that 10 lbs in the first 3 months, and since then, i havent lost any weight. i was wondering if this was due in part to my thyroid disease. please let me know what you think!!! i need some advice about trying to loose weight while still having a thyroid (metabolism) disease.

my husband drinks alot at one time but not all the time after he has had alot he likes to start a fight with me. but the last time was the first time he ever grabed me and said he was going to through me out a window. he also brock my car window. i took my kids and left of the night. but came home the next day. he asked me to come home. nowhe is not talking to me much. it's like he wishs the kids and i would go away. please help

I've been having a lot of pains on the right side. 2 months ago, I had an 8 cm cyst removed from my right ovary. The doctor I usually see said he doesnt see anything and basically think Im crazy cause now he's sending me to a Health Psychologist. Today I went to get my yearly pap and a different doctor said my cervix is open, like dilated and that I have a red ball on the right side. What could this be? If you had a type of cancer with only a 50% chance of living 5 years what would you do? Would you spend all of your money traveling - buying things you've always wanted - purchasing gifts for friends, eating at great restaurants etc. But if you spend your money this way if you live longer and beat the odds- you could be broke later on. Let me know what you would do (I am in this position at present).

I have endometrosis....I had two large cysts removed this past Feburary....I refused conventional medicine because of many reasons, one being that the meds would stop my mentrual periods and so on...and that is not what I want.....I talked to an herbalist...they recommended a few herbs such as Red Clover ...is there anyone else that knows any natural and effective cures for this?.....would appreciate any advice...Thanks!
