..He's 66, has been doing Pilates for about a year, and has gotten great results. Now he concludes that to get better results, he neds to do more reps and do them faster. I've been trying to explain that this is not efficient (he's an engineer, for god's sake, he should understand that!) I do fewer reps and more slowly, and just try to pay really close attention to the movements I'm making. But I can't really articulate to him why that's both easier AND more effective. It seems to run contrary to his Scandinavian-American "if it doesn't hurt you're not doing it right" mentality. How can I get him to see that Pilates is not calisthenics??
