..He's 66, has been doing Pilates for about a year, and has gotten great results. Now he concludes that to get better results, he neds to do more reps and do them faster. I've been trying to explain that this is not efficient (he's an engineer, for god's sake, he should understand that!) I do fewer reps and more slowly, and just try to pay really close attention to the movements I'm making. But I can't really articulate to him why that's both easier AND more effective. It seems to run contrary to his Scandinavian-American "if it doesn't hurt you're not doing it right" mentality. How can I get him to see that Pilates is not calisthenics??

I've read many fitness books and articles, and the ones involving Pilates always recommend over and over again what YOU are saying. So maybe you could try looking up articles and give him facts from fitness experts.
