I need to bring a hors d'ouvre or easy to eat/serve dish to a potluck of meat eaters. Any ideas? No tofu (allergies) in the ideas/recipes please. No dessert, either (I got stuck with a main or appetizer type of dish).

Thank you! :-)

I do not have any vegan margarine, and I know applesauce can work in place of it. I do have applesauce, and canola oil (if that would work better). Here's the recipe I am using:
3/4 cup vegan margarine (try Earth Balance brand)
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup firmly packed fresh brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup soy milk
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup raisins
3 cups rolled oats

I've recently become vegetarian and i've been researching iron deficiencies and read that some people who have one start to eat things like dirt and ice all the time. Why is that?

Whenever someone finds out that I eat vegan, they seem to really be bothered by it and I find myself being told what a loser I am simply for having a different diet than someone else. I find that I get similar heat when someone finds out I'm an environmentalist. Does anyone else experience stuff like this?

Sometimes I can't tell what I get bothered about more: being a vegan or being a lesbian.

Does the smell indicate how healthy you are. I mean, if they stink really bad does it mean you have poor health. Lately, mine have smelled really bad, but I feel good. My b/f tried to tell me if you let smelly ones, it means there is something wrong with you on the inside. Has anyone ever heard of this? I have been eating a lot of broccoli lately.

I asked this question in the V&V section because I ate a vegetable.

It seems like I never have enough to eat if I can't eat dairy or meat. What can you do with fruits and veggies?

Please help..Eating meat disgusts me and after watching Diet for a New America, I want to go vegan, too. I need some pointers, though.

I have a corn pudding recipe that calls for a lot of eggs. Anything I can use to substitute? I want it to be a vegan recipe.

Also I have a stuffed mushroom recipe that calls for sausage - and monterey jack cheese. I've made it for vegetarians before and substituted "fake sausage" for real - and they were pretty good. The cheese tends to help hold the stuffing together. But now - I'm cooking for a vegan. Will fake cheese work? Will it taste like plastic?

Whose income is under $2,000 monthly (ahem, before bills are paid). And who can't afford to go buying $10 boxes of quinoa and wild rice and spirulina and organic produce in the $50 range each week. What do you suggest to them?

I love my vegan lifestyle. It can get a bit annoying when family members think we are weird. I will always stand behind my decision and I try to set a good example. However, it's still annoying to have family disagree. What do you do to encourage family to be more open-minded? This subject comes to mind because the holidays exacerbate this situation.

Marshmallows are not vegetarian (they have gelatin in them). I cannot find them anywhere. I have been to whole foods, trader joes, freshmarket, soup to nuts etc. I've been to websites but they want 10 dollars for shipping. Any ideas would be great!

BEFORE you report me . Heres why I ask. My sister met a guy that is some kinda Africa Prince. He still lives over there and come to find out he is a Cannibal, but only "certain" types will he eat. Something about the enemy as they believe that when eating the enemy they "get their powers". My sister is a PURE vegetarian. WIll their marriage be able to work?
