Marshmallows are not vegetarian (they have gelatin in them). I cannot find them anywhere. I have been to whole foods, trader joes, freshmarket, soup to nuts etc. I've been to websites but they want 10 dollars for shipping. Any ideas would be great!

I have much the same problem. I never see them in stores. Veganstore.com has less than $7 for shipping on orders like $9.75-20.00 so it's usually easier just to buy other things to get the best shipping deal, but at the moment the vegan marshmallows in most places are being reformulated so they are unavailable usually now. ON www.cosmosveganshoppe.com you can calculate shipping before you order and I've seen lower rates since they calculate based on weight. You might want to check and see how it would be to your area.

Gelatin-free marshmallows are very hard to find no matter where you are. If you have a Trader Joe's you're lucky because they would be the store most likely to locate them when they are available. The only good alternative I know of is several recipes that you can experiment with yourself. Google around online or look in vegan cookbooks, such as "La Dolce Vegan!: Vegan Livin' Made Easy"

Check out www.veganessentials.com. They have the Sweet & Sara Marshmallows. Their shipping is usually around $8, but that's if you spend more than $50. There is a minimum order of $10, plus shipping. They're based in Wisconsin, so you'll get a pretty quick shipping time.

Pangea (www.veganstore.com) also has vegan marshmallows. Their shipping rates are similar to those of Vegan Essentials. Since they're local to me (the Washington, DC, area), I usually go to their storefront, which is open on weekends.

I don't know if you saw the question that came a bit after your's or not, but they said that Smucker's Marshmallow Ice Cream Topping is vegan. I've never seen the stuff so I can't tell you what it is even.

Otherwise, I think it grows at the bottom of Fox Lake (j/k) :-)

Marshmallow Fluff in a jar is vegetarian if the shape doesn't matter. I make yummy rice crispy squares with it. Kraft Marshmallow Cream is vegetarian-friendly as well.

I'm in the U.K., but there's an idea you might consider - try checking out the Indian stores in your area, because they often sell egg-free and gelatin-free products including sweets.
