if you eat fish, you're not a vegetarian. However, it's a good first step.

The term "vegetarian" will not apply to you. That is because vegetarian means you do not eat animals, and fish are animals.

The term "pescetarian" refers to someone who eats a vegetarian diet, with the exception that they also eat seafood. This is the term that will apply to you. Most people won't know what this means, though. So I would suggest just telling people that you are almost a vegetarian, except that you eat fish. Or, alternately, that you don't eat meat (Most people don't use the word "meat" to refer to fish flesh).

Please don't let the wording discourage you. It's great that you want to consume less animals. Even if you aren't a "vegetarian" you will still be doing something for the cause and for your health. You always have the option to become a full vegetarian later when you live on your own.

Good luck!

Remember there aren't necessarily fixed rules about vegetarianism, and there are different types that fit better for some than others. A room full of people could all be "vegetarians", and all hold a different diet, it's what about works for you, and your reasons for becoming one.

Vegetarian - does not eat any meat, poultry, fish or animal by-products such as animal fats or gelatin.

Lacto-ovo Vegetarian - Eats both dairy products and eggs.

Lacto Vegetarian - Eats dairy products but not eggs.

Ovo Vegetarian - Eats eggs but not dairy products.

Vegan - Does not eat dairy products, eggs or any other animal product. Will also usually not use any non-food items that come from animals such as leather, wool and silk.

Fruitarian - Diet consists mainly of raw fruit.

Macrobiotic - This is mainly vegetarian but macrobiotic diets often contain seafood. All other meat products are excluded, as are eggs and dairy products. There are different levels of macrobiotic diets.

This diet is based on the Chinese principles of ying (positive) and yang (negative), and people may follow it for philosophical or spiritual reasons.

Pescetarians/Semi/Demi-Vegetarians - Generally follow a vegetarian based diet but eat fish.

Flexitarian - This is a relatively new definiti, it describes someone who still eats meat but follows a vegetarian based diet for most of the time, or who will only occasionally eat meat.

No. Vegetarian don't eat anything with a face. I was thinking a lot about being a vegetarian when I was growing up. But my family don't serve meals that way and my friends are not vegetarians (we used to hang out at fast food restaurants, like most teenagers). After I moved away for school, I became one. And I have more confidence about myself that I don't have to be in the crowd and be like my friends. So I can say no to meat even when with friends and family now.

I've lost count of how many times I've had to tell people that NO, vegetarians do NOT eat fish. Vegetarians do not--I repeat, NOT--eat the flesh of any animal, and that includes sea creatures.

Now, to avoid your mom having to make two dinners every night, she can make sure all the sides are veggie and cook the family's meat entree. You can help her cook the sides and cook your veggie entree. You can even cook a full meal sometimes so your family can enjoy a vegetarian meal.

Vegetarians don't eat animals.
Fish are animals.
I have been vegetarian for 23 years and I would not consider anyone who eats fish to be a vegetarian.

Well then eat the fish but don't call yourself a vegetarian. Obviously you don't feel strongly enough to give up meat otherwise you'd cook for yourself so just keep eating it. What are you worried about? Seems like you only want to label yourself as a vegetarian. Eat what you want.... there's not much point in becoming a vegetarian if it's just to gain a label.

Vegetarians do not eat fish because fish is meat. You could eat the other things your mom makes, couldn't you? That way she doesn't really have to make extra food. Is it possible for you to cook in case you want something that she isn't making?

you'll be what is called pescetarian which is a form of vegetarianism. Im a pescetarian ( pesco-vegetarianism) which means I eat eggs, dairy products and fish. I don't eat beef, pork or chicken. Some people say fish is a type of meat. I don't think so.

Not a true Vegan , but it could be a move in the right direction depending on your preferences. There are many benefits to fish if you choose to eat the right ones. Whatever you decision is if you do decide to give up all meat make sure you get the proper supplements to give your body the protein it needs. My cousin was Vegan for a few years and she always looked pale and sickly and went back to fish and chicken but no red meat and she looks better and feels better also. She might not have been properly supplementing her diet so just make sure you do some research to stay healthy.

Good Luck
