I do not have any vegan margarine, and I know applesauce can work in place of it. I do have applesauce, and canola oil (if that would work better). Here's the recipe I am using:
3/4 cup vegan margarine (try Earth Balance brand)
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup firmly packed fresh brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup soy milk
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup raisins
3 cups rolled oats

I am a former chef/diabetic and vegetarian due to my medical restrictions, and you can use it and 1 tablespoon of oil, measure it equal to the marg requested, so 3/4 cup of applesauce and the oil, and mix in the other ingredients to the applesauce and oil like it was the marg.

Just do not over beat it only until mixed and not flour remains, mix the dry ingredients together, and mix them with the soya milk in 2-3 batches.

Do not pound the pans to even or eliminate air wholes or you will have a brick instead of a loaf of quickbread.

I haven't really heard of applesauce as a sub for butter or margarine. It's sometimes used to sub for eggs. You can't really use oil, as you sometimes need semisolid fat in the recipe.
