So I'm vegetarian, but eat vegan on most days [but about once a week I'll have some soy cheese that isn't dairy free,I'm planning to switch to a dairy free soy cheese next time i get some..for the mean time I'm vegetarian]

I eat of fruits, veggies, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, nuts, raisins, whole wheat bread, green tea, low fat soy milk, whole wheat pasta, home made vegan banana bread, beans and some "meat substitutes"(smart dogs, boca burgers, etc] sometimes.

Well I'm 14 and sometimes i tend to have a problem not eating enough calories. and the only foods i was wondering if it's a good idea to take a multi-vitamin, and which one is vegan that i can buy at wal-mart?

oh and I'm kind of confused on this multi vitamin thing..does that mean that one vitamin a day contains ALL the nutrients i need so that i don't have to worry about getting iron, b12 from cereal, etc..cause anything i eat that day is just EXTRA since I've already got the vitamins i need?
Please explain..
thanks!<3

None of my vegetarian friends try to imitate meat flavors or textures in their cooking but there are so many substitution questions on the internet.
I'm not a vegetarian but I don't require meat on a daily basis and often go without meat for days at a time. When I eat vegetables, legumes, grains, etc.. I expect them to taste like what they are with the best enhancements of herbs and spices, But I never try to imitate meat products with vegetables. What's the point?

So this is the problem. I really want to be a vegatarian but I still live with my parents. My mom is open to the idea if I go to a dietician, but my dad isn't. My dad lived on a farm as a child, and they raised and slaughtered animals. Awhile ago I told him about my ex-friend who was a vegatarian. He said stuff like,"Vegatiarians are stupid, And "man was meant to eat meat." Yesterday when we were eating breakfast my younger sister was looking at the fat content in milk and decide she didn't want to drink that kind of milk. My dad said that you needed fat and meat. Then in almost in a yelling voice he said,"There will be no vegatarians in this house. You have to eat meat! Any vegatarians can move out. I was screaming and yelling inside. I now hate eating meat especially if there are still bones or fat or any other gross part. I haven't talked to my dad yet, and my mom briefly. Does any have any suggestions or expirence?

Does anyone have any reccomendations for good Vegetarian cookbooks?

I'm really looking for recipes that aren't really 'fancy' or 'gourmet'...I'm just learning how to cook, so I'd like to start with easier things first!

If you have a favourite vegetarian cookbook, please let me know. (:

I'm starting a new vegetarian diet, I don't eat red meat or poultry and was wondering if fish is okay? I have a National Geographic Panflet that says what fish is endangered, okay, and the best choice to eat.

I became a vegetarian about 1 month ago and everyone in my family can't seem to understand it. I need a comeback because they tell me " How can you not eat meat but eat vegetables that have been fertilized with animal feces or remains?"

I am a vegetarian, but I would really like to stop drinking milk because I have read that it is unhealthy. The problem is my mother. She does not agree with my choice to be vegetarian and says she is 'putting her foot down' and not letting me be a vegan. She also says she read an article about how bad soy milk is for people.

My mother is not a very open-minded person and refuses to listen to anything that she does not already agree with. I have tried to tell her all the nutrients found in milk, like calcium and protein, can also be found in soy milk. She refuses to think soy protein, or any plant protein for that matter, is as good or better than milk and seems to think I am lacking protein... I actually counted up my protein one day just to see, and I ate a little over 50 grams without even trying. I tried to show her this...

How bad is milk, and how can I convince her to let me drink soy milk?

do they just continue to grow or what? I always want to get some so I have some fresh herbs, but do they die fast or do they keep growing? They kind of freak me out to think of.

Several times since I've stopped eating meat I've had dreams where I accidentally eat meat, am forced to or can't find anything without it and go into a rage. Has this ever happened to anyone?

This astounds me. It's like they haven't noticed that the food pyramid also includes eggs, beans, legumes, soy and nuts under the same section as meat. And you only need TWO of these in a day...how hard is it to squeeze in a PB sandwich and some beans in a day? Vegetarians are probably the only people in this country who aren't overloading their livers with too much protein.

Furthermore, I don't think it is all that easy to become malnourished as long as you are eating something. I had PTSD for two years as a child and only ate mac&cheese, mac&tomatos, carrots, oreos and fruit. I never became sickly or malnourished.

We don't need to kill animals to be healthy, quite the contrary, I think that proteins from animal flesh are downright toxic to the human body. The only reason people eat this stuff is because they like the taste and they don't have to kill it themselves.

Sorry about the rant, I've just read too many ignorant posts lateley.

All really wild scenery is attractive. The true hunter, the true lover of wilderness, loves all parts of the wilderness, just as the true lover of nature loves all seasons. There is no season of the year when the country is not more attractive than the city; and there is no portion of the wilderness, where game is found, in which it is not a keen pleasure to hunt.- Theodore Roosevelt "As a society, we strive toward greater closeness to the natural world and toward a fuller recognition of our ecological relationships. Yet the ...anti-hunting movement reflects an opposite trend - increased distance from the environment, diminished awareness of how we interact with it, and denial of basic biological processes." Because I keep noticing more and more people claim to be vegetarian yet still eat fish. Being vegetarian means you don't eat meat at all. So if fish aren't meat to you people who claim to be vegetarians but are actually pescetarians, then does that mean they're swimming vegetables?

I'm trying to think of something vegan and delicious to bring to my best friend's party tonight. Chips and guacamole don't sound cool enough, and I don't own a blender.
What do you recommend?

I often drink Costco soymilk because it`s cheap, and it has one gram of fiber, while a more expensive brand, Westsoy, I think, has 3 or 4 grams. And then I sometimes drink locally (San Diego) made soymilk that has no fiber.
Now all of these have roughly the same ingredients, ranging from simply soybeans and water to soybeans, carrageenan, sea salt, and some added vitamins. But I have trouble believing any of the added stuff contains fiber. So are there ways to make soymilk in which the fiber is either retained or lost, or is this an issue of companies being careless with their labeling?
Additionally, the protein content fluctuates between brands, but I assumed this had to do with the concentration of soybeans to water.
