Ice cream and (most) dairy are vegetarian but not vegan. Non-vegetarian dairy is the kind that includes animal rennet.

Vegetarians do not eat fish. No matter what anyone says, people who eat fish are NOT vegetarians.

My rule is that I don't eat anything that caused the death of an animal. Dairy does not (directly) cause the cow to die. Granted it will probably eventually be slaughtered, and I won't even go into the whole veal calf thing... but theoretically, milk can be obtained without harm to the cow (farmers have been providing their families with milk this way for centuries). If you buy it from a local farm, rather than the store, you might be better assured the cow was not harmed in the process. I also buy freerange eggs for this reason (when my own chickens get lazy about laying anyways)... while chickens don't die to make eggs, those housed in egg farm battery cages certainly don't live very fulfilling lives.

Fish however have to die for us to eat fish, so that is not vegetarian.

Vegetarians don't eat fish
they don't eat poultry, fish and eggs
unless your ovo-veggie, then yes, you eat eggs...
depends on what veggie you want to become, lacto-ovo-vegetarian eat eggs and mil products
My advice, if your going vegetarian, stick to your diary products to soy, So Nice is a great soy milk that doesn't have that strong, taste as well the chocolate and vanilla versions are Delicious
I say go with soy because it has vitamin b12 and protein, which you need when going vegetarian
if your going full vegetarian I suggest seeing a dietitian to know what to eat and what to include in your diet everyday since you still growing
Good luck =)

You can have all the icecream you want. Vegetarians still eat dairy products and eggs. Vegans do not eat any animal products. No on the fish though. If it has a face, don't eat it.

1) Yes... if you didn't eat any dairy products, you would be what's called a vegan.

3) No... Vegetarians eat dairy, but don't eat animals.

Vegetarian is so much better than the Standard American Diet, but milk (dairy) is still horrible for you. Go Vegan if you can. Your body will thank you for it!

Yes, you can have ice cream.

As for fish...well it doesn't really make sense to see a meat eating vegetarian (yes fish is a meat). People who eat fish and call themselves vegetarian seem to just be desperate to be part of a group they really don't belong in.

You can do whatever you like. There are no vegetarian police as many here would like you to believe. But why would you want to eat cold coagulated cows milk which was intended for it's babies? Also, be aware that tomatoes are known to "scream" when their skin is cut and potatoes have eyes. Fish are not vegetables. But shrimp are about as intelligent as cucumbers. So you decide. Bon appetit!

1) yes
2) personal choice and if it is sustainable (like salmon, talapia and trout)

You should also check out VegWEb.com for guidelines as well as mypyramid.gov to make sure you get the right balance of nutrients. A Veg lifestyle can be healthy if you make sure to get the proper balance of nutrition. Also if you can get a good cookbook like Sundays at the Moosewood Restaurant for a wide variety of food choices so you don't get stuck in the preprocessed rut. Good Luck!
