So I'm vegetarian, but eat vegan on most days [but about once a week I'll have some soy cheese that isn't dairy free,I'm planning to switch to a dairy free soy cheese next time i get some..for the mean time I'm vegetarian]

I eat of fruits, veggies, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, nuts, raisins, whole wheat bread, green tea, low fat soy milk, whole wheat pasta, home made vegan banana bread, beans and some "meat substitutes"(smart dogs, boca burgers, etc] sometimes.

Well I'm 14 and sometimes i tend to have a problem not eating enough calories. and the only foods i was wondering if it's a good idea to take a multi-vitamin, and which one is vegan that i can buy at wal-mart?

oh and I'm kind of confused on this multi vitamin thing..does that mean that one vitamin a day contains ALL the nutrients i need so that i don't have to worry about getting iron, b12 from cereal, etc..cause anything i eat that day is just EXTRA since I've already got the vitamins i need?
Please explain..
thanks!<3

I do know some of Member's Mark's vitamins contain no animal products... These include Natural Vitamin C with Rose Hips, Calcium Magnesium & Zinc, and Vitamin B Complex.

Their flax seed oil supplement does contain animal products.

I think these vitamins are available at Walmart, but if not, they are at Sam's.

Nutrition is more than just getting the vitamins and minerals you need everyday. Your body also needs Protein, carbohydrates, etc, for all the chemical processes that take place to make your body work correctly (your organs, muscles, digestive system, BRAIN.....every cell in your body!)

Calories provide the energy which gives all those vitamins and minerals the power to go along with all the complex processes necessary for your heart to beat and your kidneys to filter waste from your bloodstream. You absolutely CANNOT get all the things your body needs from taking a multi-vitamin everyday.

Now about vitamins:
Each vitamin is different, but they ALL tell you the percentage of the RDA (recommended daily allowance) of each vitamin/mineral they contain. Taking a good multi-vitamin in addition to a BALANCED diet is an excellent way to ensure you get all the necessary vitamins and minerals that you need to be healthy. All you have to do is search the vitamin aisle and choose a multi vitamin that has the highest percentage of the most vitamins/minerals that also states "Vegetarian" on the label. If the bottle says vegetarian, then it is, but if it does not state either way then it probably has SOME ingredient that disqualifies it for this label. I've seen many vitamins labelled as vegetarian so you shouldn't have any trouble finding a multi vitamin that suits your needs. Good luck and don't try to substitute vitamins for a healthy diet...you're only 14 and not finished growing yet, so your body needs to be fed!

"natrol" is a brand of vitamins that walmart carries where I live. I have used their products and am fairly certain they would offer a vegetarian multi vitamin.

You aren't going to find vegan friendly vitamins at walmart, vegan vitamins are hard enough to find at health food stores.

Most multi's don't have 100% of every vitamin and mineral you'd need, there's also no fiber or healthy oils present either.

There's a slim chance that wally world *might* have a veg friendly zinc supplement, 10mg a day might help with your eating disorder!

You really don't need to take any vitamins. I've been vegan for half a year and am also in my teens. I have not gotten sick once. I've done my research on the subject and have found that many of the vitamins thought to have only come from meat (i.e. riboflavin, vitamin B12) can be found in soy milk, specifically the Silk brand and some breakfast cereals. You really should only take a vitamin if you have a pre-existing medical condition which requires you to take vitamins.

Also, you seem to be eating a really well rounded diet. I wouldn't even worry about you not getting all you need in a day. If you're really worried, you should do some research for yourself. Maybe get a book on the vegan diet that will help you understand it better. I recommend the book Skinny B¡tch. It's a good book because it's easy to understand and isn't thick. The language in it isn't always the best, but it makes it interesting. It has a list a vitamins in the book too and what foods you can find them in, although I really wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Your diet seems very healthy.
Good luck on being vegan.

Edit:
I'd like to add that yes there are vegetarian vitamins dispite what someone else said. But also a word of caution. Vitamins do not go right through you. In fact, if your body doesn't absorb them all, they'll go to your liver and after an extensive period of time of taking unnecessary vitamins that won't absorb completly in to your body, that could end up causing you to have live damage.

I can't think of any from wal mart, but I'm sure they probably have one. Try GNC if you have one.

Before you get a vitamin though, you might want to add up all the vitamin percentages you're getting from cereal and soymilk. If you eat 2 or 3 bowls of fortified cereal per day you're probably getting a lot of vitamins and minerals. And a little tip is don't drink tea with food that you want to absorb iron out of because the tea will inhibit it, especially if it's a plant source. Do however, drink orange juice or a have a piece of citrus fruit because the vitamin C is necessary for iron absorption.

Multivitamin Walmart

vitamins only SUPPLEMENT what you have in your diet, so no they do not replace the nutrients you get from your food. If you don't eat and have the proper nutrients, vitamins go right through you without being used. If you want something you can get at Walmart, I suggest you call Walmart and find out if they have something like that.

so you are so worried about the little animals that you are going vegan, but you don't care a wit for humans? Why would you shop at a place like Walmart that is ruining small towns putting family businesses out of business and under paying and abusing workers?

Maybe you should think a little more about humans and a little less about cows and chickens.

There is no such thing. All vitamins are made out of pigs feet.
