Vegetarian & Vegan - February 2007

I just bought a tin the other day and opened it to find it was now powdered rather than the 'chunks' it used to be. I poured the water on it and noticed it smelled funny so I had a look at the ingredients and it now has full fat milk in it. Apparently it's so you get that creamy mash taste at home. Well, why can't people just put their own milk in if that's how they want it?

I'm p!ssed off because I'm vegan, so now I can't have it, but also because there's all this talk about healthy foods and obesity and they're adding full fat milk to something.

Any non-vegans not trying to lose weight who want an unused can of Smash are welcome to get in touch!

Do cooked lentils have a full set of amino acids? If not, what vegitarian food does (no eggs). If you can, try and include how much protein is in the food you list

Go to this website, www.Peta2.com and watch some of their video's. It's the most horrible, discgusting thing ever. I can hardly believe how cruel people treat animals. Please watch them, I cried the whole way through.

My daughter was diagnosed with reflux when she was 5-6 wks old and has been on Nutramigen formula (most expensive there is I think) Per her doctor, we have tried switching her to a few different formulas but nothing has seemed to work. By my own decision I wanted to give rice milk a try and for going on two weeks now she has not needed her meds for reflux and is keeping the rice milk down just fine. Problem is that it doesnt carry all of the nutrients and vitamins that is important in the first year. What do I do? It seems to be agreeing with her besides being a little constipated which is also a concern but do I switch her back to Nutramigen because thats the only thing that stays down w/ meds or do I continue with rice milk w/out meds which also seems to stay down. Note: the medication that she has been on is NOT FDA approved in children but seems to work so this is the reason that I'm wanting to get away from it. Any answers?

I want some un lunches that aren't hard to prepare. Like yogurt bowls with granola and strawberries, odwalla bars, etc. Just creative ideas that are better or me than PB&J sandwiches and 100 calorie packs... :)

OK, so I went to 1 health-food store and found a jar of nutritional yeast. It was in a regular, non-refrigerated isle. This jar was pretty expensive. I couldn’t see what it looked like.

I went to another health-food store and found nutritional yeast that was refrigerated and packaged in somewhat of a ziplock type container. This was much cheaper, as well as very light and flaky.

Anyone know what the difference b/w the two is? Is one better than the other?

Also, if you happen to know, what do I do with this stuff?
Do I sprinkle it, uncooked, on dishes like spaghetti?
Or do I cook it and mix it in food such as… um, spaghetti sauce?
(I’m making spaghetti)

:)
Any info will help.

I am trying to think of moral reasons etc. for such a lifestyle.... Is it just a diet, similar to the concept of going on Jenny Craig (sans cooking and meat)?

I'm just curious.
Thanks

It seems like whenever somebody asks a question around here they get at least one HILARIOUS vegetarian joke.

Here's how the average question in the Vegetarian/Vegan section goes:

Question: "I'm looking for a good recipe for my vegetarian significant other, any ideas?"

Answer: "Vegetarian means bad hunter! LOL!"

Just as bad are the people who give recipes for non-vegetarian items. We get the point, people. You don't like vegetarians. How would people like that feel if they asked for a nice pork recipe and we gave them a recipe for vegetarian chili or something?

why don't people just of organic and go HUNTING!! doesn't get more organic than that! the only true all natural food , not farmed, not grown by people just from the earth to your table you hunt it you kill it you , you cut it up you , you cook it you eat it! you use the hide for nice work gloves about 3 good pairs and use the rest on book covers and binding. I don't know why people don't eat meat, don't be lazy and complain about animal cruenity , hasn't anyone watched the animal channels and see what other animals do to eat? wolfs kill animals just to kill them, they let them die slow , they bite into there hind quarters and there spine so they can't get away and they go for another. sometimes the animals like deer take hours if not up to days to die, seems a lot less painful and more humaine to shoot the deer in the head of heart and kill it instantley just food for thought. .. just wondering what people think about going all organic and do a little more hunting?????
