I can't speak for all of the other vegans. However go to PETA's website and there is free cd that the send you on how some of the meat makes it to your plate. It's pretty disgusting and makes any meat lover second guess what they are eating. You don't have to be an animal lover to see that some of the things that happen are just plain disgusting.

No I did not choose to become vegetarian.

It was a gradual process. I was really getting into researching diet pertaining to endurance sport as I was heavily into bicycle racing. I just researched everything that I ate on a regular basis and started eliminating things which I found to hinder athletic performance. The first thing to go from my diet was all meat. I simply found that the fat goes into your bloodstream and literally slows the blood flow – not good for performance. Dairy foods, basically the same thing, and on it went from there. I just kept researching deeper and deeper into the foods I ate and eventually into the actual ingredients then the way in which the ingredients were grown, processes, manufactured, altered, and generally adulterated. I hadn’t even heard of the word vegetarian or vegan. I knew people that didn’t eat meat, but they said they just didn’t like the taste. So, the first time I came across the term vegetarian is when I was looking for a cook book at the library which had recipes without any of the things I considered to hinder athletic performance. Eventually I found one that was called Almost Vegetarian or something like that. Eventually, years later, I finally started finding books that were 100% vegetarian (now called vegan by some) and the recipes suited me perfectly, especially those focusing on whole foods.

I became a Vegetarian six years ago and now have become a Vegan.

I'm glad I made the change : )

My reason is simple.
"Just like us, they weren't born to die"
no one deserves to die to provide food for another while there are plenty of alternatives to a carnivore's diet.

I first became vegetarian to protest factory farming. Then I realized how much better I felt. The only things I miss are milk chocolate and cheeses; but I don't miss them enough to start eating them again.

I didn't either - I never liked meat but when I was 17, my system just completely rejected it - I got ill every time I ate meat so I stopped. 12 years on, I've never looked back and recently pretty much the same thing happened to me with dairy so now I've been vegan for 4 whole days! :) Good luck!

For me, it started for the horrible treatment of the animals in the meat, dairy, and egg industries (I'm a vegan), but as I starting reading more and more about the slaughter industry and actually being a vegan, I realized that there are countless health benefits as well.

Ever since I've made the switch, I've felt overall healthier and have more energy than ever.

I did not stop eating beef, pork, and poultry because it was good for the animals, but because it was good for me. I did find out about the treatment of the animals, and thought that my decision was a good one...
However, I'm still a consumer of seafood, so I guess I still have a bit to go.
Thanks for asking.

Basically, feeling compassion for animals and feeling bad everytime I ate them. Also, I believe it's a healthier choice all around. If you are young though make sure you start taking vitamins, I did not I was young (14) now 21 and I got sick during winter every year.

I became vegan at 17 because I learned that eating animals creates suffering for the animal. I decided that eating animals is wrong.
