Yeah, what he said! (vegan&proud) I couldn't have said that better! He gave excellent reasons why FOOD, all food, is a good source of protein, and why people who eat a variety FOOD, whatever kind it is, will not become protein deficient. That's the good side of things, below I will give the downside of things.

TOO MUCH PROTEIN
Don't worry about not getting enough protein on a veggie diet. People who eat meat and dairy and eggs actually eat too much protein, which causes osteoporosis. When the body digests an overload of protein (like a hamburger patty or steak or egg or something), the protein turns acidic in the digestive tract. This acid needs to be neutralized, so the body saps the calcium from the bones in order to neutralize this acid. Over time, enough calcium is sapped from the bones, which causes them to become POrous, thus resulting in osteoPORosis. Sooo, too much protein is actually bad for us. The SAM (Standard American Diet) has way too much protein in it. Vegan is the healthiest you can do for yourself. Oh, that and not taking drugs, hehe! (joking, joking)

Actually Vegetarians get more protein than meat eaters cause they have to eat more beans and more cereals and more grains.
Those that get protein from meat get dead protein. Dead is death. U are what U eat
if U eat something that's dead that's death so doesn't that make U death? Vegetarian foods there's lots of Iron in Beets.. you need that and
all those orange vegetables and fruits are necessary in a veggy diet. Most important thing
in a Vegetarian diet is FRUIT not Veggies..
Here's the order Fruit,Grains, Cereal, Beans, Vegetables. U can get good advise from Your Local Library.. they would have books on being a vegetarian and even vegan if U choose to go that far in diet change!

MYTH: "Vegetarians get little protein."

FACT: Plant foods offer abundant protein. Vegetables are around 23% protein on average, beans 28%, grains 13%, and even fruit has 5.5%. For comparison, human breast milk is only 5% (designed for the time in our lives when our protein needs are as high as they'll ever be). The US Recommended Daily Allowance is 8%, and the World Health Organization recommends 4.5%.

MYTH: "Beans are a good source of protein."

FACT: There is no such thing as a special "source of protein" because all foods -- even plants -- have plentiful protein. You might as well say "Food is a good source of protein". In any event, beans (28%) don't average much more protein per calorie than common vegetables (23%).

try boca burgers. they are delicious and a great source of protein. In reality, though, you can get all the protein you need from beans and rice. protein really isn't that big a deal. meat substitutes will probably become a big part of your diet, to make up for the meat. morning star farms has a great product called veggie crumbles that can be used just like ground beef, but is so much better, not only for your health, but great tasting to. do your own research on this, arm yourself, and make the fight for your parents. let them know you are serious (if you are). their are many vegetarian books out there, and plenty of great websites with wonderful info. www.peta.com good luck.
