Just curious to know why some chocolate cake recipes call for boiling water. Why does the temperature of the water matter? I mean, can't you just use room temperature water? What diff does it make, and is why is boiling the water important?

My boss is taking us to lunch to celebrate Chinese New Year (1 employee is Chinese). I cannot eat meat tomorrow due to Lent and I have a seafood allergy. I dislike most Chinese food. I am not sure how to get out of this. They told me to eat California rolls or Tofu-both which I greatly dislike. I just started this job a few months ago. They could tell from my reaction that I was not thrilled to go, but didn't offer to let me out of going. Should I eat before I go and just socialize with them. I feel like I'm going to just end up eating a bowl of rice. Also, I have a heart condition which doesnt allow me to eat spicy foods. Please help! Lunch is tomorrow (Friday)!

I've heard people say the skin of Fried Chicken is as bad as it gets. And, i think there's a strong argument for that. But, everytime I eat a donut, it tastes good, but I immediately feel like crap. So Donuts get my vote. What do you think is the most unhealthy thing to eat, pound for pound?

What is it about thes delicious english crumpets that make them SOoo tasty - especially with butter and some marmite...WOW ! to me it is the perfect lunch. Maybe because im British it is ''ingrained'' in my genetics to enjoy them LOL ?? they are after all *very* traditional but they really are nice and i never met anyone who didnt like them - british or otherwise....! I also love the taste of marmite ( which is little like vegimite if your not sure what it is ) - its the perfect combination but I wonder why?

Ps - Crumpets if you dont know look this this http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dcrumpets%26ei%3DUTF-8%26fr%3Dyfp-t-447%26fp_ip%3DDE%26x%3Dwrt&w=180&h=123&imgurl=www.thebestlinks.com%2Fimages%2Fthumb%2F5%2F5e%2F180px-Crumpets%2C_hot.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thebestlinks.com%2FCrumpet.html&size=5.4kB&name=180px-Crumpets%2C_hot.jpg&p=crumpets&type=jpeg&no=20&tt=2,363&oid=7221f0f279fdee0a&ei=U

Anyone here vegan and hypoglycemic that can help me adjust my diet plan? My dr refuses to give me substitutions for meat and milk, but i'm not sure where vegan things fit in (like soymilk, tempeh, satien, etc). Thanks for any help!

I love this dish but some restaurants totally wreck it by adding peppers and onions and putting it in a slightly sweet sauce. I've had it prepared what I thought was the correct way: stir-fried beef with very little sauce, presented over puffed noodles.

Restaurants don't understand me when I ask them how they cook it, and what I'm looking for. So I might as well just make it myself. I'm a good cook, so I can handle whatever you throw at me!

I'm just looking for the recipe with the beef in dry-ish brown sauce, presented over the puffed noodles.
