Anyone here vegan and hypoglycemic that can help me adjust my diet plan? My dr refuses to give me substitutions for meat and milk, but i'm not sure where vegan things fit in (like soymilk, tempeh, satien, etc). Thanks for any help!

Vegan and hypoglycemic here...

You will want to poke around the website for Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine. Dr. Neal Bernard is doing great work in the area of blood sugar. He's shown that veganism can reverse diabetes. He's shown that meat and dairy is worse on your blood sugar levels than straight up sugar.

Most hypoglycemics carry munchies all the time. A little something in your tummy can help keep your blood sugar from dropping dramatically.

I'm exceedingly fond of Primal Strips. Ever had those? I get them from Food Fight online grocer because I can only get two flavors at Whole Foods. Food Fight carries all the flavors.

They're just one ounce. It's sort of like jerky. I'm very fond of the Thai Seitan and Texas BBQ Soy. The seitan has a MUCH better texture.

Since they're sealed, they are nice and clean for your purse. And barely take up any room. Also, Let's Do Organic does vegan gummy bears that come in 4 tiny packets to a box. Something else convenient to drop in your purse.

Check out Sarah Kramer's cook books. I've been using all three for about a year. I love them! I only have problems with my hypoglycemia when I eat out. I picked up all three at a discount on Overstock.com.

I'm vegan and also hypoglycemic and everybody inculding my family tells me to get dairy products and meat, but as soon as I start eating that I feel so bad and so weak,it doesnt help my problem at all.
Sugars and fat in dairy products have no benefit to help such a problem,as you can get plenty of protein from grains and nuts like almonds. What I do now is I eat as much as I can from fruits, and I dont feel the drawbacks of hypoglycemy now at all.Of course they will keep telling you: take milk, eat eggs.Whatever! you are a vegan and you know the right way! Go VEGANS! save the world ;-)

I am hypoglycaemic and just avoid foods containing sugar and eat lots of wholemeal foods. I do not have diabetes so do not need to watch my weight, however I see no reason why soya based products should effect you any differently to meat products. There is a great recipe site which even has sugar free desserts and baked products and everything is vegan. You may find it useful so I have sourced it below:

Avoid simple sugars (refined grains, sweets) and snack on low glycemic foods throughout the day. A handful of nuts is a great snack.

I am vegeterian and hyglycemic. I eat peanut butter...soymilk would work, as well as fruits for snacks. I have to eat somehting every 2 hours or so to keep it up...nuts are my fav. PB and crackers, apples, carrot sticks....whatever!
