I have a huge load of mashed potatoes in my fridge and no gravy, so I was wondering about other ways I can make them taste good with spices, sauces, etc.

I'm wanting to make some vegetable soup for dinner and have read a million recipes. My question is, is it really as easy as throwing your ingredients (peas, carrots, celery, etc.) into a pan of beef broth and tomato sauce for an hour and letting it simmer? Any suggestions on what to throw in?

Why are some peppers spicier than others? Like some serranos, anaheims, jalapenos, and pasilla peppers are hotter than others. I like the milder ones, but can't tell the difference. Brother in law says you can tell by it's length (the longer, the spicier). Anyone know if this is true; I don't really think it is.

My (not so) adorable (at the moment) kids have opened THREE bags of chips & let them get slightly stale! Of course , not one of the 5 of them will confess--- or eat the expensive gormet organic chips now! GRRRRRR!! LOL Hate to waste them. Any Ideas?
