My parents are both irish. My mother and fathers family tree goes way back to the 1600's. My parents spent a few years in England - where I was born. We moved back to ireland when I was 5. I was never accepted here as Irish. Im obviously not accepted as English either. I have an irish passport. My familys history is irish. My blood is irish. I have an irish accent. Does my place of birth define me as English? If a dog is born in a stable, does that make it a horse? Ive been listening to digs and jibs about this my whole life. ( Well 20 years of it anyway im 25) What do you think?

Ok, so my sister posted a question not too long ago about her daughter Andrea...i just found out that Andrea has been reading books about the color orange...I am devistated and i know that my sister will be too...should i tell her? Oh, by the way, tonight is Andrea's weekly intervention. Her mother and I have decided to make a list of all of the things that she cannot know about...some of the things on the list are: orange, plants, squirels, and the opposite sex. Should I add golf clubs to the list in tonight's intervention? (they could be misconstrued (sp) and the naughty, forbidden, or even worst...sex!) Andrea can never fail! Will telling my sister about Andrea's discovery of orange distroy her, my niece, and my life?

Ok, this is pretty stupid, but I'm gonna ask anyway.

My parents make me get my hair cut pretty much any time it gets long. Personally, I'd like to either keep it long, or shave most of it and get a mohawk.

According to them, because I do stuff in public (like orchestra concerts, playing piano for church, crap like that), I have to keep it neat, and they don't give me a choice in it. But it's my hair, so I should be able to do what I want with it.

Along similar lines, I want to get my ear pierced (I'm a guy), but I haven't even asked yet cuz they're gonna say no. I'm 17, so I don't think I can do it without their permission. How do I ask in a way that they'll say yes?

My brothers & I are very close. Im 22, Patrick 21, & Michael 20. My family has a history of addiction problems. Pat has a drinking problem. He drinks the heavy stuff, even alone. We're dark Irish. Sometimes he gets violent. His friends are intimidated by him. I have seen him punch people; walls. In the past year he has broken his knuckles, wrist, & shattered his ankle. He argues; calls names. They moved to LA to pursue they’re dream of producing movies. They got into University Citys production school & start this summer. They are saving money at their current jobs. But Patrick started his excessive drinking again & this time it is worse then ever. Since October Pat has beat up Michael 3 times! The last time, 2 days ago, put him in the hospital. Broke his nose and he has stitches in his mouth. Now his anger is channeled directly to Michael. I know that Pat needs to get help for his drinking & anger problem. What is the first immediate action I should take?

She always is beating me up and making me upset. She calls me names, says i am fat (which i am not) and makes fun of me. She is constantly forcing me to let her wear my clothes and my jewlery, use my computer, cell phone...etc... Everytime I try to deal with her she hurts me mentally or physically. My parents are usually not around and if they are they try to break it up, but usually it just ends with ignore her. But what they dont know is she constantly is hurting me. What do I do?

she's made very little monetary contribututions (no rent) during the relationship of 3 years and doesn't work. she cared for me during a serious surgery recovery. i found out that she has been putting my signature on checks made out to her from my account and has been making my life miserable so i'm ending it. i've asked her to move out almost a month ago. she's now asking me to loan her $xxx,000.00 so she can get a house to live in. i would be willing to help her get a place and pay a couple thousand to get her moved. she has made threats to say untrue things about me to make things difficult for me for me in the future. i don't think ending it on good terms will be possible. any suggestions or advice appreciated.

We have two little ones, girl and boy, ages 6 & 5, who want to play t-ball. My husband coached our son last year and didn't take our girl serious when she said she wanted to play tball this year. Dilemma is that team is too full to add another player. My husband decided that it wouldn't be fair to let our son play and not our daughter--it was his fault that he didn't take our girl serious and signed her up. So, my husband decided to take our boy off the team and accepts that we would wait til next year to sign them both up. I am proud of my husband's decision to not choose our boy over our girl. But, the rest of the family, my husbands' father and brother, have thrown a fit. My father inlaw lives for our little boy and doesn't see why our son has to be punished for our mistake of not signing up our girl--my husband stands firm on his decision that if he can't coach both of them on the same team, then neither would play. While everyone else sees it as unfair--we agree that this is the best thing. is this the best decision, or are we wrong?" in Yahoo! Answers

I have known since I was 16 that my dad was not my natural father although my mam (parents are seperated) did not tell me until this year. She believes that my dad doesnt know (I think he does but just wouldnt admit it). I love my dad , he has been a reasonably good dad.
My mam has told me my natural fathers name and I have his adress and telephone number. He has been fed constant information about me over the years (he is also married) so I would not be a shock to him .
What I now need to decide is do I actually want to know him? Do I want him in my life ?
Have you been in this situation ? what did you do ? What were the consequences?

He's old and alone. He has hinted that he wants to come live with me and my family, but I wanted to hear the Pros and Cons from people who have let their elderly parents move in with their families. Especially if you have children, how did they react or adjust? I have one in her 20s, 19 year old daughter, and 14 year old son.

Your advice please?

Since 8 had to do work when I got home from school. I wasn’t allowed to do my homework until I did my chores. My mom didn’t work but she would wait for me to get home so I could go to the grocery store, even though we lived 2 blocks away and she had a car, she would wait for me to get groceries. I used to tell her I couldn’t carry that much, and she would say “stop your whining”.And I had to vacuum the house every day, and cook dinner, as well as laundry and iron my step-father’s clothes. Every weekend I had to mow the lawn, wash the cars, and pull the weeds. My step-father would bust open my bedroom door at around 7am every Saturday and Sunday and make me get up and do yard work or whatever stupid things he was up to that weekend, because he didn’t want me to be “lazy”. So I never got to play with the other kids, or sleep in, or do whatever, and never really got to learn to socialize with kids.

Anyway,did I miss anything worthwhile?

I have been with my girlfriend for 4 years now, we met shortly after high school. To make a long story short, she finally broke down and told me back in September that she had gotten pregnant and had a child when she was in high school. Since everyone in her family wanted the best for this special gift, my girlfriend's parents adopted the baby right away. My girlfriend and her ex-boyfriend both signed away all of their rights to my girlfriends parents.

The child, however, still does not know that she's adopted. She still thinks that my girlfriend is her sister. She's in first grade now.

I have since gotten engaged to my girlfriend. I love her to death, and I don't hold her past against her. It took a lot of forgiveness, but I feel that God brought us together.

Since we've gotten engaged, we have both agreed that we'd like to re-adopt the child and raise her as our own. The adopted parents have agreed to this as long as it won't psychologically damage the child. Any advice?

I have an issue. My sister and I along with another person have been living together. I partial rent just like they do. Except she and I got upset with each other and she left. I have called a couple of times and she is not returning calls. I have not been able to go to work because I have no key to the house. I have no key to the mailbox either. I have just been a mess. The house is in my step dads and mothers name. But, my mom passed away. According to the mortgage company my mom is still alive. Would it be illegal to change the door knobs? What would you do in this situaiton. I only have my duplicate checks which show that I do pay rent that is all. I am scared to leave only to come home with my stuff kicked out on the curb.
