Family - August 2006

I know some mothers (including mine and my wifes) that act like they own their children. Example: If you don't do something exactly the way they ask, they will go on a guilt trip rant about how they sacrificed and dedicated their whole life to us, and nothing was good enough for their children, yada, yada, yada, guilt, guilt, guilt. Why? Why is it that some parents can have a normal relationship with their children where both parties accept and respect each other? Why do some mothers think that they own us when we, the children did not choose them? We were passengers in this journey they call motherhood. I say: "Children of the world! You owe you parents NOTHING! They should take care of themselves!"

I think once they have a childthey need to quit the partying. I mean they have a kid now and they need to be taking care of their kid not living their past life.What do you think? its because i have a lot of friends that are like this and i say to myself what are they thinking?

My dad and I have never really had a close relationship and over the years I have tried so hard to have one with him. He is such a passive, non-emotional man that I don't ever know what he is thinking or feeling. I have tried to write him letters and talk to him getting out my feelings and it seems like it is ALL one sided....like I am taking all the initative and he is not. What do I do? It totally breaks my heart, and I am getting married next July and having him walk me down the isle isn't as special as if he would JUST TALK TO ME. What is going on? What can I do? Should I give up?

They keep the ex and her little girl around (the little girl isn't his, she was pregnant when they got together). The little girl even called my husband daddy before we got married. Once we married he told the family that was no longer allowed, it's not his daughter. Well his parents still let this little girl call them grandma and grandpa. They also let her little brother do the same. I'm very uncomfortable with the whole thing. I don't want to be around his ex or her kids. His family just things I'm being mean to them and I need to get over it. His family doesn't even act like I exsist. It is causing us some very serious marriage problems. He insist the kids need to know his parents and we need to go to their house. When we go there are pictures of his ex and her kids everywhere, no pictures of me and one of our children. How can I help his family see they are hurting me?

My X and I have split up. We were together for 4 years. Our daughter is 2. She had both parents for 2 years and didnt have to worry about not seeing one or the other and stuff. Is it healthy on her mental growth for her to go to my house for a week and then to her dads for a week. We live 3 hours away from each other. I was told by 2 different people who study phsycology that its not good on her since this is not what is she knows. They said that its best for her to see each of us several times mixed through the week and not every other week. How right is this? Can someone touch up on this topic for me? Thank you!

I hate my brother and sister with a passion. and im not sure why. but even if i get along w/them sometimes i still hate them and it doesnt make me feel bad that i hate them. i hate my sister even more, she is a year younger than me. i htink it is because i am her half sister and she always used it against me. she would say things like this "im glad ur only my half sister" or "why dont u live with ur real dad, ud be loved more there." but iknow that is not true, i have about 7 sibilings on his side, he cares for none of them. and my sister also would tell my 2-3 year old brother that if he played with me i would kill him. and sometimes she specified, she said i would shoot him with a gun in the head, or stab him with a knife, or my fave, cut his pe.nis off with a dull knife. she did that till he wasabout 6. now he hates me tho i have been all nice to him. and we are six years apart, and his nastyness towards me has caused me to hate him. should i feel guilty?
