I've never been in a relationship, but some of my friends and family members were in abusive relationships. They said that the guy was all sweet at first, but he eventually became verbally and physically abusive? How can I tell whether a guy can be trusted? What are the signs? How do I know if beyond that nice guy appearance, there isn't a controlling monster?

My boyfriend of many years recently cheated on me for the first time while on a trip abroad. He came back and I felt something was wrong right away. All excuses laid aside, he finally admitted there is another woman he met abroad. They keep in touch via text messaging, emails, etc. I know he won't be going there again to see her, although I'm not sure she won't come here (it's another continent). Whatever he's experiencing is infatuation - she blew his mind away, I'm pretty sure it's based on a physical obssession, but it happened anyway. He came home 3 weeks ago, I left home 2 weeks ago. It doesn't really get easier for me, still hurts a lot.
I have good days and bad days. I try to look ahead and think positive. I am planning to return home in some time and tell him to go. I, being a foreigner in this country, found a lot of support among people around me, even if my family is far away. I do want him to get over this fling and try to make his way back to me.

I met some men between the ages of 27 - 32 still living at home & receiving an allowance from their parents. I ran into them at a bar, they were very good looking men, seemed educated, and have decent jobs, yet were boasting about their allowance. When I asked them about their living arrangements, they saw nothing wrong with it & kept saying "would you turn away free money"?

I don't know what to make of this!

I broke up with him cause it was the right thing to do. Yes it hurts! but im ready to move on. He keeps writing me just to check on me... and i do reply back cause i can't ignore him and and don't wanna be rude. Below is what he wrote to me today .. what is he trying to say?

"I know I'm supposed to ignore you and all that...but if you keep responding to every mail.....how am I going to achieve my goal ? ......Just the way you always had to have the last kiss.......it seems you have a desire to have the last word too... "

why do you suppose this happens ? :))

I am 20 years old...I know I have ultimate say on what happens in my life, but I want my family's blessing. Well his family approves, despite the cultural differences. I know it would be a huge adjustment with him already having kids, but...I dunno!! I'm confused as all hell. I don't think it would be much of a cultural problem, except for my parents hating the fact he's mexican. I speak spanish pretty well and he speaks english...I dunno!!

If you were backed into a corner and had to make a choice with your dad do you stand your ground and for what you believe is right or do you just give in? For the full story you can read my other question about my dad moving. But this is what it comes to I either stand my ground against my dad who was never there for me or just throw in the towel.

i broke up with this chic a year ago. We dont talk anymore. She just want doing it for me. I saw her at a bar last night with her man playing poker (which i got her into) anyways she ignored me and i walked up and said hi and she said hey thats all. Do you people cut all contact and try to avoid eachother? Is it strange not to talk to her more than just saying hi? Felt weird not to say much more than hi

Additional Details

Also spotted her in another bar sat night but she ignored me. I tried to do the friends thing but she was in love and kept trying to keep me. so the thing i did was just cut all ties.

There's a horrible woman at work, aged about 53, who everytime I talk to her says something awful about one or another of my colleagues. So far she has said the boss is a crook, my friend is a liar and cheat, that someone else is a drunk - you get the picture. She is hard to avoid as it is a small place, but all the people she slags off are really lovely and what she says are all lies - why is she like this, and what should we do? Thanks

When a guy says he would love you if he was single what does it mean?
i was dating a guy for a while we both were very physically attracted to one another and things broke up as i was upset about my job etc a little needy at the time...he always stares at me when we are out and the other day i apoligised to him and he said i was one of the most lovely people he had met and that initially he was intimidated by my job ( i have quite a high powered job and earn good money) he also said he thought i was gorgeous back then and still does, i said i was leaving and he kept on grabbing me and said he would love me...if he was single..When i chatted about one of my ex boyfriends he got jealous and said 'what about us?'. He has only just started to date someone else..i have always been infatuated with him and vice versa..what should i do should i ask him for a drink as friends, i think he could of beena potential one

I mean, I think everyone is prone to cheating whether they admit it or not. If people are put in the right situation they'll go for temptation. Its exciting to cheat theres a certain thrill.
