I have a degree in accounting, but I don't want to go back to school just to get education credits. Is there a way for people from other fields to get into teaching? I always hear how there's such a teacher shortage, but it seems the hurdles one must go through to get into the field are nearly insurmountable. I am willing to teach in the most difficult inner-city areas because I came from a similar background and I feel and can relate to those kids most. If anybody has good advice on how to break into teaching, quickly and without paying for another 20 college credits, please let me know.

Is it possible and reasonable to have my 8 year old tested orally rather than the traditional written tests? I'm told that people with ADHD usually do very poorly on written tests, but they can do a lot better when tested orally. My child is failing most of her tests and I think it might be because the focus on writing reduces her ability to focus on the answers. When we talk about the material she's being taught, she usually knows the answers. And even though she's testing poorly in math, she loves math and tells people so. I bought her a math workbook for her grade level yesterday so she could use it for entertainment while we travel today, and she was thrilled. She started working on the problems right away. This is not the behavior of a child who doesn't get math. I'm getting frustrated with her teacher. It seems she doesn't mind leaving my daughter behind rather than helping her to do her best. What are my daughter's rights (in Canada)?

I am a trainer for a large company who, for security purposes, has disallowed the use of paper and pens in the classroom, and my trainees are unable to take any notes for study purposes. I am looking for ideas to be more effective in this environment, as it is a very intensive 6 week training program for new hires in the company, and retention can be difficult.

I've been teaching English as a Second/Foreign language for the last couple of years, and I would like to get started on a career back home in the US. I'm looking into post bacculurate degrees that would certify me in Washington state. I want to stick with teaching, but Math and English seem so boring. How tough is it to find jobs teaching high school History?

My 6 year old son is having an especially hard time with W's, V's and the oo sound.
I am pulling out my hair, because certain words, he'll get and 3 minutes later he can't get them again.
I have tried having him read to his toys, but he just makes up the words. I have him read to me, but he gets tripped up on the above...
His dad and I are divorced, but we work very hard together to help our son... we are both baffled.
Any tips would be greatly appriciated...
Thanks in advance.

I have one student who doesn't celebrate ANY holidays for religious reasons. The rest of my students really enjoy worksheets with holiday (non-religious) games or graphics and I find them an effective teaching tool to keep these students interests. For the one student who doesn't celebrate, I have made similar worksheets with "nature" themes or the like. Of course that creates extra work for me. If I can't, then I just give him undecorated worksheets or games that work on the same skills. He is still unhappy that the other students get holiday worksheets. How would you handle this situation. I want to be fair to everyone.

- Hi, I need some advice please. I would like to live and work in the US and teaching is the career i am currently training towards. I am on a PGCE 11-18 yr old ICT course in the UK, at a university and have worked for a year previously in a school as a learning assistant/librarian/IT manager. I have a degree in Business Studies, but am on an Information/communication/technology post graduatre teaching course, to augment my skills. - I become fully qualified as a teacher in a year or so, in the UK, so what do i need to do to teach business studies or Information/communication studies in the US? - I know that because of the federal system each state is different, so it is a bit confusing to me. - Are there any teachers out there or professionals who know about such things, or have made a similar move? - Is there a state or two in particular, where things might be simpler for me? Help! (: - Many Thanks.
