After you've read a small part of the story at a time, try telling a friend or parent about what you've read ~ recalling as much detail as you can, but at least trying to get the main idea told. Saying it out loud helps, but if there is nobody to tell it to, try writing it down in your own words.

Good luck! Hang in there! You will get better and better with this as you practice it!

If this is not a passing focusing problem, there is a chance that you may have a learning disability. Here is the National Center
For Learning Disabilities, that I found through the U.S. government's Health website:

http://www.ncld.org/content/view/360/342/

It includes sections on diagnosis, where to seek help and much more. Check this website out, or if you are from a country other than the U.S. find resources in your city in the same way. This website is helpful nevertheless, for a first look, no matter where you are from in terms of showing you where to begin and how to go about this matter.
Good luck,

Try to divide the book into three main sections, beginning, middle and end. Then write a sentence about each part. after you have read it. Then when you get to the end of the book, review what you have written and see if you can put more details into what you have written.

is it because you can not concentrate while reading? your mind is somewhere else while reading? or is it because you can't remember? what you can do is after reading a page see if you understand insteed of reading the whole thing....
