Last year, I gave my Spanish I students a chance to take a pre-final with as many notes as they could find that were at least 50% in their own writing. I scored the things & gave them back to review before the actual final the next week, with a day to go over the most common errors I saw.

Also, this test had 50% of exactly the same questions as the final.

This year, however, we are crunched for time. The final exam testing time was extended, but this means that we have 2 fewer days for review. This means also a day less to get the pre-final graded AND to review major mistakes.

I have 3 days to work with before finals begin, but my Spanish I exams will be on Wed. and Thurs. of the next week.

My main question then breaks down into the following:
1 Do I let them use notes on pre-final? On the final?
2 Do I need to give back the pre-final before exams begin?
3 Do I GIVE a pre-final?

My final IS cumulative; I want them to be able to speak w/o notes, but they may need help recalling.

The high school students know the consequences, but yet they continue to choose the disruptive paths.
Do the students still need that attention to prove their self-worth?
Do the students find it more rewarding with the consequences?
What gains do the students feel like they are getting by getting into trouble?
Does it make the students feel better to be in trouble?
Is the classroom discipline and structure so unbearable that disruption is the only way out?
Are the US students too spoiled with too many choices? Should students be offered less choices?
What are the reasons?

I like to hear constructive comments, not just sarcastic remarks.

I graduated 5 years ago and during senior year a friend told me that she was having an affair with a teacher. She swore me to secrecy and said she was blowing him during lunch hour. His wife was pregnant with their third child at the time. To my knowledge, only me and one other person knew about this.

I no longer am friends with this girl, and I've been thinking about this a lot lately. While she was 18 at the time this was supposedly happening, I feel uncomfortable with him still being a teacher.

How should I handle this? Should I tell someone? Should I just forget about it? I keep thinking that he might be preying on other girls, and while my friend never saw the affair as exploitative, his next girlfriend might. However I have no proof this actually happened, just what she told me... and I would hate to drag her in by name and ruin her marriage (she was cheating on her boyfriend-now-husband with this teacher) or ruin his career...

Should I do something about this?

There have been numerous incidents where it seems like she is flirting with me or hinting at something more but it's hard to tell. I know when I first saw her in the beginning of the year I didn't think much of her but then I had to go into school early one day and I had to visit her classroom and I didn't need anything from her but she insisted that I stay and write something down for her and as I was doing it she sorta whispered something into my ear. When I walked out of the class I got a chill and just felt like something was wrong. There have been other incidents but that is the one big one. There hasn't been any contact though and she's actually a really attractive woman in her 30's and I'm 17.

I have an MA in English from a Scottish university - that's 4 years full time study. However, I can't work in a school abroad as to teach English as a foreign language only CELTA or TESOL is acceptable - that's 4 weeks study.
I've never tried CELTA but it seems to be an ego trip for the 'lecturers', certainly that's the case here in Poland.
Is there a course that involves positive feedback and training rather than negative criticism by prima donnas?
I have worked for the last 3 years as a freelance teacher in Poland. While I don't have Celta or Tesol at the moment I earn considerably more than the wage offered by city centre schools. I'd like to study for a TEFL qualification to improve my skills rather than simply a way to earn more. Any suggestions?

I'm a fairly new high school English and social studies teacher and can't seem to get my kids motivated for learning. They don't seem to have much resilience - if they don't succeed on their very first attempt, they quit. How can I teach them persistence? Any ideas? I have tried many 'tricks', like rewarding for effort (not only achievement) and marking on rough copies/editing etc.
Is it just 'kids these days'? I really don't believe that. I have managed to turn a couple of kids on to reading (through cool books). I've tried modelling the bahaviours I want to see.
Any tips or ideas?

I realize this is a rather vague question, so I'll try to explain: I teach English to mainly adult students, one to one lessons. They are all non-native speakers of varying levels and abilities. I want to be able to teach, one-to-one, to all levels and abilities. I try a lot of eliciting answers rather than giving, conversation practice, native culture and natural speaking methods. Anyone have any other ideas?

I've tried to look for one, but most of them are made for little kids. Pretty much all the Math programs I've found are almost like old Nintendo like Mario games with Math thrown in there as a bonus.

This would be fine if I were a little kid with a small attention span, but I am a college student who never took math as seriously as I should have. In the college I go to they expect people to do math without a calculator and I unless I train myself somehow I absolutely CANNOT do this.

Anyway, is there any program or anything to learn multiplication THAT ISN'T DIRECTED towards little kids who want to play games? Isn't there any serious Math training programs out there? If not I guess I'll have to do everything by pen and paper but I am not very good at self taught type stuff. It'd be nice if there were a serious program for PC to do this.
