I'm currently at a crossroads with myself. I want to end up being a teacher at a community college (yes, a cc.). I haven't really found my knack in what I'm interested in. I've thought about everything, from History to Mathematics, Biological sciences, and English. Unfortunately, I've been making good grades in all my classes, with none being more interesting than the other. My Comp/Rhet and Comp/Lit classes were awesome because of the writing, which is what I would like to do when I am able to teach (have students write about certain topics).

Anyone have some insight into where and how you decide on the path of life in teaching?

I am an 18 y/o senior in a that moved from a small town with a chior of about 40 to a smaller chior with a chior of about 20max. Starting next term i will be joining in to an 8th Grade Chior class as a "tutor" but what will be happening is i will be teaching the class and directing a performance at the end of the year. Remember they are 8th graders. The school i came from placed 8th in the OSAA state compitition. So i have a clue what im doing :D lol. The school i am at now hasnt ever compeated that i know of and so there students dont know alot of what they are doing. I need Help picking a song that i can Teach them (that they will understand me teaching) and also a song that they will learn from with out getting too frusterated. thank you.

I'm pushing 30 years old. I recently received TEFL certification and have a BA. I probably won't do this as a 20 or 30 year career. Although I'm serious about it and want to be a good teacher while I AM teaching, I'm hoping that I will be able to use this experience to further my career in a different field later. Does anyone have advice on what fields or employers might see my English teaching positively?

The profession of teacher is questionably the most important to any society....The payscale however does not reflect its value, consequently the duty of teacher is sometimes diminished only to affording students the ability to pass a grade.

What if a teachers compensation was based in part upon the income of former students....

Each student and teacher is placed in a national database updated at each grade....

Example: Upon graduation from college or begining at a certain age, A fist grade teacher would receive as additional income .0001 percent of the tax income of her former students when they begin to contribute to our society.

Is this enough incentive to ensure that our youths are afforded the necessary training to become productive citizens?

Would this encourage better teaching ensuring that our children are better prepared for the global economy.

Does it bother you to find out there is a Jehovahs Witness in your class, especially around the Holidays? I was raised as one till 12 and the teachers made me feel very awkward and embarrased. It wasn't my fault, it was my parents choice. Do you take that into consideration before you ostracise and humiliate the child?
