I am an 18 y/o senior in a that moved from a small town with a chior of about 40 to a smaller chior with a chior of about 20max. Starting next term i will be joining in to an 8th Grade Chior class as a "tutor" but what will be happening is i will be teaching the class and directing a performance at the end of the year. Remember they are 8th graders. The school i came from placed 8th in the OSAA state compitition. So i have a clue what im doing :D lol. The school i am at now hasnt ever compeated that i know of and so there students dont know alot of what they are doing. I need Help picking a song that i can Teach them (that they will understand me teaching) and also a song that they will learn from with out getting too frusterated. thank you.

Choose something as modern as you can that is still learnable and doable. If you dont remember back then, the boys voices are changing , so try to pick something without a lot of differences in range. I would stick to secular music instead of religious music because of religious differences etc. You do not need that fight. Think of musicals that were fun. I remember at that age we had a choir arrangement from the Man to Good Night Ladies and (pick a little talk a little) There is also a hilarious Telephone Hour from Bye bye Birdie. They all have cell phones, have some fun with them whipping out the cell phones in the middle of the concert.

If you know that song Jesus Child teach them that. Or you can teach them O come all ye faithful. As you know I am also part of a children's choir once. The best song we sang is probably Joy to the World or Silent Night.

Consult with your director to see what they think the group will be able to handle.
