I want to be a high school theatre teacher and I was wondering what would be the best major and emphasis. I'm really into dance and stuff, and my idea was to double major, but would that not really work?

I've always dreamt of living overseas (I'm from New York) and I'm looking to become a teacher, either in English as Second/Foreign Language or History...so I figure teaching overseas at international schools would be the perfect way for me to pursue both of my ambitions. Question is: how do I achieve both goals? Any advice or thoughts would be welcome, thanks.

He does it jokingly and tries to be funny, and he can be but sometimes its sort of annoying. And its wierd because it's usually me and he...talks a lot to me. I am confused, because I am not dumb in that class.

I've tried contacting school guidance departments, advertising on Craigslist and in print newspapers, posting flyers, and offering referral bonuses. Schools are uncooperative. Everything else works a little, nothing works well: my schedule is not full. My current students are generally pleased and their grades do improve. I just can't seem to compete in the marketplace with all the loud, expensive voices.

Thanksgiving (or Thanks-taking)? Colombus being a hero? The REAL Civil War causes? Avoiding the Roanoke incident?
2+2=(always)4. Not true in all mathematics.

Many of the things my teachers told me, especially about American History were not false, but urban legends.

I'm still trying to sort out all my facts....

Teachers, any advice for subs in your class, particularly middle school? I had a hellish day (7th gr. history). The teacher left explicit lesson plans, but from the word go the classroom, all periods, was mayhem. The students were assigned to make a poster (cutting, glueing, markers). They screamed, swore, were out of their seat, threw supplies, and one student threw an open glue bottle, spraying glue everywhere. I have tried ejecting the students who were out of control, but the schools do not look kindly on this; it is my job to control the classroom. I have said I will leave a note for the teacher listing the students who were working well (trying pos. reinforcement), but w/ little success. I am short, and in the kids' eyes, very old (slouching toward 50) so I feel like I have no power. The usual tools like detention, a call to parents, aren't available to me as a sub. I was near tears when I left today, from the stress and feeling like a complete failure. Will appreciate advice.

I teach in an inner city school right now, I really like it. But there are issues with the administration that really irritate me. Also, the lack of motivation sometimes really gets me down. Meanwhile, this other school district wants to interview me. It's like a "rich" school district.

My fears are that I won't be "good enough" for a better school district with high expectations. While where I work has high standards, they aren't nearly as high, and I'm not at risk of losing my job becasue they really need good teachers. I'm afraid if I moved to this other district I would lose my job immediately because I'm suddenly exposed as a fraud. What should I do?

I am a 5th year teacher and it is my first year at a new highschool. However, I can't seem to get my freshman class under control. No matter what I do! They never listen. I keep them after for a half hour, I send them to the principal and I send them to detention. NONE OF THIS WORKS. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME IDEAS!!!!
