The biggest lie isn't what you are looking for. The biggest lie was that starting salary out of college (5 years ago) was $36,000. Booo. 5 years out of college, before I was making $36K+.

The biggest lie I was told was how the human eye works, and why bad eyesight happens. It turns out that the eyes - in most people with long or short sight - became lazy at some stage and slowly stopped using the intricate muscles that alter its shape to focus. When spectacles are used they become dependant. Without glasses, using the appropriate exercises, most eyesight probs can be fixed, as expressed by Doc Will Bates.

I had a biology teacher that would LOVE to tell tall tales. I think that many of us would include them in our exam essays! He could say anything with such belief and with a straight face and even tone it was impossible to sort it all out. And, he was and is a student favorite. When talking to my sister who graduated years after me, we found that the same fibs are told year after year.
I think my favorite from him was that when police need to identify a body, they count the ribs. Men have one less rib than women because in the Old Testament, God took a rib from man and created women. And yes, there were many who wrote this on thier exams (and we were marked correctly because this was what we were told!). Multiple choice questions would also always have one crazy answer, such as a student's name. How he must laugh when correcting exams!

Go to colleges open houses they will tell you about the admissions process in greater detail or keep and eye out when colleges visit your school to ask questions. You should start applying for scholarships as soon as possible. The sooner you apply for scholarships, the better chance you will have. You should start applying for college in the beginning of your senior year, preferably before January.

Betsy Ross making the American flag.
Columbus (what an evil bastard he turned out to be).
Nathan Hale's Last Words (I regret that I have but one life to lose for my country). It turns out that it's very unlikely he ever said them.
Indentured servants. I was misled to think that all were there of their own accord and that they were treated nicely.
That "no one" is one word (noone).
I know there are more, but I can't recall.

That if I taught in the local inner city school district I would make more money but that it wasn't worth the horrible conditions. She was right about the conditions, but not the money.

"Science class, if the longest day of the year is in June why is it warmer in July and August?"
"Gee Mr. Peard, we don't know."
"Oh, you gosh-darned silly kids. Because it has to get warmer before it can get colder!"
