At alternate word that is more of a model than a template, is often called a "paradigm," in the business world. It's not clear whether you want an alternate word, or pronounciation.

A World English Dictionary states the correct pronunciation for template is.......

Yet I have heard it prounounced like it is spelled in certain dialects of the U.S.

Some people say 'plate' as in wait, but I think they're incorrect.

No. "TEM-plit" is the only pronunciation listed.
