How about the effect of technology on society? The difficulty intellectual topics is that, before you bring them up in conversation, you should have given them some thought and come up with rational opinions. Instead of asking others for intellectual topics, how about asking yourself what really matters to you. What have you thought about? What is it that you find interesting? If the answer is beer, football, or nothing, perhaps you should quietly do some reading before bringing up intellectual subjects. By the way, you did not mention in what situation you want to raise such questions.

You could discuss the topic of any current event in the daily newspaper or something discussed on the morning news. Keep an open mind when you bring a topic up. Don't necessarily start out with what YOU think about something. Say "Did anyone hear about ......?" If anyone did, ask what they thought about it. If nobody has heard about it, say "The morning news said ......(state the facts they reported on the news)." Then wait for their input on what they think about it. You can usually find something interesting and unusual as well as intellectual to discuss.

Did this help you out? Hope so! Good luck!

THe best way to get the ball rolling is a rhetorical question, such as What do you think about ......

Philosophy. But make it fun. Start out with a conversation about dreams you and others have had, then branch out into Sigmund Freud's philosophy on dreams. If you're with a husband or wife, you could even give that a romantic twist...Freud had some interesting philosophical ideas.
