Each state has certain curriculum that must be taught, ie ww1 ww2, and some school districts will add to that curriculum and expand the lessons. It sound like you got the bad end of the public school system. In college history classes are different and often more specialized topics, so you'll learn it eventually, if you want to. But certain schools would find what you just wrote horrifying. By the time you graduate high school you should have a grasp of a little bit of all history. Dont forget about central & south america, and africa, lots of schools forget to mention the history of those areas too.

I think many schools today are more interested in teaching kids how to pass the standardized tests then they are in teaching them about the real world.
I would say that you're lucky to get any history at all. US History is better than none. I bet they didn't teach you any Geography! Do you know where Paris is? (Real question asked to real high school student who didn't have a clue.) Do you know which country borders the USA on the south? (Plenty of recent high school graduates can't answer this one.)
I would suggest that when you get in college that you take some History courses just so you know the cultures of this world developed. I think it's fascinating to know how people lived 1,000; 2,000 years ago.
Congratulations on caring about the history of the world.

I agree with your findings! I enjoyed History after I learned about it. California believes to teach the basic of history which is the mayflower compact and stuff from the beginning of U.S history. Teacher have to meet what the states will be teste on and only teach what will be on the test. If teachers have time they'll tech real history. ALso, there is many controversial poinst of views and teachers want to remain politicla correct.

Each country has different priorities with its education. I went to school in 2 different countries - Germany and Australia. They just had different ways of teaching. Maybe the US, or your school just didn't see that sort of thing as a priority and would prefer you to learn about subjects a little closer to home. (Eg. the US's involvement in the World Wars, etc)
The other option is that you just forgot, haha

american history is just that american history, even when you discussed china it was and is from our perspective how they relate to us etc. They talk about the countries we or england had wars with. Europeans tease us about this self centered history and attitude we seem to have.

most US schools focus on history that directly relates to the US
and only skim over the rest of the world because there just would not be time to go in to detail of the whole planet

That's 'cause the Academia are trying to somehow change the view of history by picking and choosing what they will and will not teach our kids.
