I've gone to college with people from many countries where English is not the official language, and when I asked where they learned to speak it so well, 90% of the time, it's television. Might want to restrict which shows they see. Not every one that speaks English uses the phrase 'Cowabunga'

Have your child read English out loud , this will help a lot. Also to learn phonics, buy a English dictionary,too.I wish your child well, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

Here are some ideas:
Hire a nanny who speaks English;
Send him/her to summer schools abroad;
Send him/her to the international school in your city;
Teach him/her some vocabulary and grammar regularly, or find a tutor to do this;
Find him/her a pen-pal from an English speaking country;
Have him/her read children's books in English;
Speak to him/her in English sometimes at home.

every member of the household should speak english, atleast inside your home. Repeated exposure to the language shall make him adapt to it. Let him watch english TV shows for kids...read to him english story books too.

I don't know how old your child is but I each 4-6 year olds. The website I use in my centers is

www.starfall.com
Click on ABC's or "Learn to read"

It reads it aloud for you and then you repeat it. There are games to deal with grammar and letter sounds.

Best of luck.

Tell your child----
-Read books.
-Always speak English at home.
-Join ESL class which some school has.
-Don't be shy.

I did all those things except ESL class. I can ensure you that those are really helpful.

let him watch cartoons - even if he is a high school student
let him watch and listen sport commentary in english
let him also read english books - level depending on his capacity.
films are another source.
