My daughter has brain damage, she has a statement and receives full support.
She has just started secondary school and everything is new to her.
A new conceptfor her, is a locker, where she keeps things, to save carrying around everything.
She was asked by P.E. teacher where her kit was and said, "I forgot it".
she hadn't, it was in her locker, cannot explain herself properly.
She was given detention.
Should she?
I have a meeting Friday 20th Nov at school annual review.
what is your opinion?
Thank you for your time. Terry.

I am 18 years old and I've been home schooled up to grade 8. Last year I enrolled into ILC schooling to get my grade 9-12 but when I contacted the teacher last week she said my scores were so good that I would be wasting my time to spend the next 2-3 years getting my grade 12 so she said I should study for the GED test and take that when I'm ready. If I study the newest book should I be able to pass??? Please give help or advice!! I'm really nervous. Math is the hardest thing I think...

only get worse. Riots in schools the lot. Why will nobody realise that the reason lots of kids have no jobs and no motivation is that academia is only the choice of a few. I would suggest that kids should be taught real jobs at school if they want like plumbers, hairdressers, mechanics, anything they can get a job with. Even graduates have realised that plumbers are now millionaires. This situation started when nobody was encouraged to train skilled workers. There is a whole generation who have been cheated just because the system favours the brainy kids and in my opinion completing an apprenticeship is just as worthy as any degree. No wonder the young people do drugs and drink. I feel sorry for them.

I mean seriosuly, it seems IMPOSSIBLE, I don't know why I but no matter what I do I always end up with a bad grade. Im not stupid, I don't have any learning disabilities, and I really try. Its like I start out with an A+ and then i fail one test or I forget just one or two homework assignments and I have a C. How can I get all A's???

So today I got back a research essay on plants and science. I'm pissed. They give me a ******* note saying that I needed to cite my sources on each paragraph. I FREAKING WROTE A BIBLIOGRAPHY?! What the hell is wrong with the american education these days?! It's freaking critical to the max...what's wrong with a bibliography? Why the hell do people have to cite their sources in each paragraph right at the freaking moment. Jeese...comments?- This is a private school by the way.

So, Creative Writing AND Photography weren't available. I took Journalism. Good choice, eh?

We learn how to manipulate people, how to act like a person's "best friend" when interviewing them, pretty much being a liar.

Anyway, you can't do any creative writing in your articles WHATSOEVER, other than the lead. It annoys me to death! It's all, "he said / she said."

...and we have to interview people and I'm shy... This is great, right?

What do YOU think about Journalism?

my son got sent home from high school yesterday because he was play fighting with a friend, the principal said to me that the boys werent in trouble but because they were a bit excited he thought that they might get themselves in trouble some time during the day so sending them home was the better option for the principal? i dont understand the logic in this? is my son not allowed to be happy at school incase he gets in trouble? if thats the case then i better keep him home everyday incase he gets in trouble?

District School Board to divert money to alternative schools to help keep at risk students in school. The province has allocated money for the use of school boards to try keep at risk students in school. Our Premier is not comfortable targeting this money based on race.We have recently had elections and a hot issue then was the proposed issue of faith based funding. The majority of the voters were against it. I think that all students who are at risk of dropping out need access to these funds not just a select group.I'm old enough to have lived through the civil rights movement and remember the struggle ,and the risk, black children endured to attend all white schools.I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like. This new proposal seems like a new form of segregation to me and a step backwards. We have many diverse cultures in our schools and I'm sure for recent immigrants it is also a struggle ( language and cultural differences) .Schools educate, parents teach values

I have a couple of yearbooks, already, inc. 1 from my senior year. I would like to have some more but I don't know how to go about obtaining any. I'm not in touch with anybody who I went to school with; they're all scattered everywhere. So, I couldn't ask them about this sort of thing. Any ideas? If anyone who went to Kemp High School, in Kemp, Tx. within the years '90-'94, is out there, I'd really appreciate your help.
Thanks.

My school have given me some pretty terrible predicted grades including an E in English, F in Maths, D in D&T, and so on. This poses a problem when applying for sixth form/college places, and I think that I could easily outpreform these predictions and get at least Cs in these subjects. If I just write down C as my prediction on the application form, will they question it, or will I just have to prove my offical grade after exam?

Thanks

My daughter went to school in Kansas City up until her sophmore year, when we moved to Indiana. I have never had to pay for textbooks in a public school...til now. Indiana requires students to "rent" their textbooks. This semester I have to pay almost $30 a book...per trimester. I was under the impression that public schools were free and my tax dollars fund them. I have always had to pay for classes like photography, woodworking, etc. But to pay to rent a textbook???? Isn't this illegal?

as some of you might have watched the video on yahoo's current feature video, how do you feel about the school giving detention to a 13 year old girl for hugging her friends in a way of good bye?

this is what i personally think..
i think that its the administrators or vice principals that happens to be jerks or over using their authority on doing what they feel comfortable doing. of course, this is ridicoulous. i think the girl should call up a bunch of people (friends and families) and hug each other in front of the school. im assuming this will become a bigger issue later on and the super attendant of the district will eventually have to apoligize to the public and explain.

what do YOU think?

Have your read about Megan Coulter? She gave two friends a hug goodbye on Friday as they left school. For this she gets two days of detention.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/2166171...

I have written an email of protest to both her Middle School Principal Mr Bob Stone, (mascoutahmiddle@mascouta...

And

The District Superintendent of the school system..... Dr. Sam McGowen (mcgowens@mascoutah19.k12...

If you too feel that Megan's detention unfair, email both giving your view of the unfairness of her detention.
