District School Board to divert money to alternative schools to help keep at risk students in school. The province has allocated money for the use of school boards to try keep at risk students in school. Our Premier is not comfortable targeting this money based on race.We have recently had elections and a hot issue then was the proposed issue of faith based funding. The majority of the voters were against it. I think that all students who are at risk of dropping out need access to these funds not just a select group.I'm old enough to have lived through the civil rights movement and remember the struggle ,and the risk, black children endured to attend all white schools.I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like. This new proposal seems like a new form of segregation to me and a step backwards. We have many diverse cultures in our schools and I'm sure for recent immigrants it is also a struggle ( language and cultural differences) .Schools educate, parents teach values

No schools should not be separated based on race. Canada is a country that is proud of being multicultural and should continue to teach children that everyone, regardless of their race can live together.

Are the students in Toronto at risk because of their race or because of the environment they live in? There is no guarantee that by separating the races, that the "at risk" students will remain in school or improve. We need to address the needs of the students without making the excuse of race being the cause.

What was the point of the civil rights movement in the past, if we are now going to resort to segregation. Put any name on it you want, Black Centered Education is still segregation and taking many steps backwards in the area of human rights.

What research is supporting the need for a Black Centered Education? Why is it only needed in Toronto and not in other areas such as Durham, Kawartha, Windsor etc? Maybe the issue lies with Toronto itself.

ABSOLUTELY NOT.... i don't believe that based on a person's race that means that they are any more at risk in learning. If we had an all Caucasian school system would that not raise the alarms and whistles of the other races that we didn't think of. What the education system needs to focus on is the ability of the teacher to educate. The student should be given the same consideration regardless of colour race or creed. Enough monies are wasted on small select groups as it is. Let's not impact on that process further. If a person wants to live in Canada. We must all have one standard. Would my child be given the same rights and freedoms if we went to the middle east and not be punished in very archaic methods etc. That is my answer and i am sticking to it. People don't have to like it. Perhaps if they spent more money on how to help students stay and learn in schools instead of the great violence that seems to happen in the larger cities.

i might ask the opposite question: Why are our Black and Hispanic scholars failing our faculties? And the suitable answer is, they have a tendency to be poor, this is tied to low try scores. Worse, if a school district has often poor human beings, it gets much less earnings taxes (many times sources taxes) with which to help its faculties. Secondary reasons contain family contributors disruption (i.e. a 70% illegitimacy fee) and occasional precedence on coaching for some Blacks, and absence of journey with English for some Hispanic immigrants. Oriental scholars tend to do nicely because of the fact their mom and dad fee coaching and that they artwork perplexing. To take an severe occasion, if a toddler is in my college room, and his mom is normally inebriated, his father is often absent, his mom's stay-in boyfriend is normally abusive, and the kitchen cabinet is normally empty, that toddler has various strikes against him formerly he even walks interior the door, so do not blame his poor overall performance on me. I artwork with what i'm given. Hungry young ones can't study nicely, this is one reason many faculties have a loose-lunch (or perhaps a loose-breakfast) application. after all, i don't share your concern of a trendy-day South Africa. Our Latinos are integrating nicely, and there is greater of a Black center-type than there was once.
