So today I got back a research essay on plants and science. I'm pissed. They give me a ******* note saying that I needed to cite my sources on each paragraph. I FREAKING WROTE A BIBLIOGRAPHY?! What the hell is wrong with the american education these days?! It's freaking critical to the max...what's wrong with a bibliography? Why the hell do people have to cite their sources in each paragraph right at the freaking moment. Jeese...comments?- This is a private school by the way.

I know what you're getting at, it seems to upset the flow of the piece you're writing about, plus it's time consuming and boring but that's school. Especially in science where a lot of research may have gone into your sources then those folks like to be recognised for their contributions. Follow the system and you get the grades you want.

A bibliography is a list of all sources used in your paper. This is different than a reference cited, a specific page source of a single reference. I'm sure your teacher made this clear BEFORE you began the project.

And all you will do at the end of each paragraph is do a citation number (1)

They will now have to contront an appendix to see the citation (2)

And since many papers do not do this, it really serves no purpose (3)

I read a book with copious footnotes, but the full citation was at the end (4, 5)

What do you really expect from a private school? (6)

You said that you wrote a paper on plants and science
now depending on what grade you are in which is a most
likely a high school....citing a paper is very very important
because writing a paper without previous knowledge or current knowledge of the subject is stealing/ plagarism....because of the fact that you had no previous knowledge of your paper....It would probably be easier to just cite the paper...because plagarism can be put on your file and fail you for that class....

Citation is necessary. MLA style is easy.

"Researchers believe xyz" (Smith 2).

Last name of the author, and page number. It'll save you a lot of grief. 2 of my friends are on acdemic probation at a private school for not citing. It's not a bad thing. It's giving someone credit for their work. What if someone took your essay and copied it without giving you credit, after you worked so hard? You'd be pretty angry. So would these authors that you're not correctly citing.

you have to site in each paragraph, because they are teaching you skills that you will need to use in college. When you are writing a 20 page paper the professor won't know what is your ideas and what are ideas you found. Therefore you aren't giving proper credit to the people you got it from. everybody has to do it, its a pain in the b***, but its just the way of things.

It depends on the type of assignment whether you need to include footnotes, or whether just a bibliography is sufficient. Sounds like this assignment required footnotes.

if you cited everything properly in the bibliography IT IS NOT PLAGERISM, but it may not be what the teacher wanted which would be a basis for points taken off but only that.

Because you copied and paste someone else's work without using quotes. Using a bibliography is fine, but when you copy someone else's words without direct quotation then that's wrong.

Well if it makes you feel any better, we have a professor at my college that uses turnitin.com religiously and tried to fail over half of his 50 student class. At least you're not stuck in that situation.
Besides if you have a reference page (which is required for most any paper now) all you have to do is copy and paste pretty much.
