I find it annoying how teachers just pick you randomly to answer a question... and its bad enough if you don't know the answer. This sounds stupid but, the only reason I hate school is because my social studies teacher does that. How can you not be afraid to open up and share your ideas to the class? I find it so difficult, I think its just because I'm shy... but I'm not like that in my other classes. My social studies teacher is my form teacher and hes so freckin' scary!! can anyone help...

Hey all, I just signed up for an Advanced Placement (AP) English course at my PUBLIC high school for my senior year. The new teacher for that class has a summer reading assignment, which includes reading the Bible.

Now, the first time I heard this, I was appalled. I have spent nearly eleven years of my school life avoiding the Bible, and I am proud to have the rights that say no one can force religious studies on me.

But, I do not see any way around this reading assignment. I must read books from Genesis to Corinthians. Boy, I am really worried that something fishy is going on at my school, and that this new teacher is plotting something. I hope she doesn't first make us read the Bible, then convert people.

Her rationale for reading the Bible is that there are many allusions to the Bible from literature, and I think that is superb. I'm all for allusions, but reading the entire Bible? C'mon...

I don't know what to do, just the thought of reading the Bible makes me shudder. Help?

The majority of this world uses elementary education. Not all schools call themselves secondary schools. Others will call themselves a senior high school. And another will call themselves a high school. Is secondary school like the neutral term for all of the names? Is there a reference for this? Secondary school in my dictionary only means a school coming after elementary school, comprising grades 7,8 or 9 through 12. Senior high schools don't come after an elementary school, so technically it's not a secondary school. But many senior high schools still call themselves a secondary school when technically they aren't one. Primary education is only used in the UK and some other countries so that means that the majority uses elementary education. I think that this category should be renamed to reflect the majority in this world.

My kids finish school on June 21. They go to a public school (which is good aside from the rant you are about to read)

For the last 3 weeks, they have done practically nothing educational. They have taken field trips to water parks, watched movies in class, played games, had a picnic....etc. There has been no projects, homework........nothing.

There were 3 final exams (2 hours) in this 3 week period that would qualify as education.

What has happened is that the teachers have completed the state mandaded educational requirements, and then stop. The kids have to go to school to meet the 180 day requirement even though nothing is being taught.

One of two things should happen.

1) Continue to teach until school lets out

or

2) Let the kids go on vacation

Lets stop this farce at the end of the year just to meet the 180 day requirement.

For the record I live in NJ. We supposedly have one of the best educational systems.

So, How much time is wasted in your system?

What questions should I ask myself when I'm reading novels, newspaper, and other books? It is hard to be a deep critical reader. I don't want to be a shallow reader. I would like to explore the world of the writer and fully understand his intent, the message he or she wants to convery to the reader.

What questions and do you have any suggestion? I will be soon a high school junior. Can you answer my answer correctly?

Radio Script

Samira:
Welcome everyone; are you a big fan of Charlie Chaplin? Would you do ANYTHING to see him perform?

Santiago:
He is performing in Toronto tomorrow. So you better get out of your chair because tickets are almost sold out! Now we have a special report from our news reporter, Jordan McGuire.

Jordan:
Thank you. Right now I am experiencing one of the worst disasters in Toronto! A blizzard is approaching…visibility is absolutely zero! The volume of the snow is covering everything! Even our cameraman looks like a snowman.

Samira: We will be back after this commercial.

[Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…]

Santiago:
Jordan? Jordan? It seems like we have lost our signal, folks.

Samira:
Great, we are back. From Toronto, with an update on the possible blizzard and disaster unfolding there as we speak, here's Jordon.

Jordan:
Thanks!

I feel that this countries public schools are the biggest waster of funds anywhere except maybe the military.

In my state the average cost of a k-12 grade education is over $10,000 per student per year. Some fantastic private schools charge much less.

I know some of the costs are associated with things like students getting free breakfast, free lunch and those students who don't even know english but this is still absurd.

One small district here in WA spends OVER $40,000 per student per year!

That is insane - is there any reasonable explanation?

How come people say that an alternative high school is for bad students when it is a choice that students make? It's not a special school so schools can't force students to go to an alternative high school. I live near Great Neck and we have an alternative high school in our district called Great Neck Village School. Many students comment that only "druggie" people go there. And only people who get into trouble in the traditional schools go there. I'm sick and tired of hearing people say this. so please can you tell these people that alternative high schools are for students who want to be there, hence the word "alternative"?

Specifically, I feel that homework is a massive downer on a child/teen/student and decreases happiness due to taking away personal time outside of educational institutes. When going out or having fun, it is always resting on ones mind and in general is stressful. My question is, do you feel that is homework was abolished, would people do better in education and in general feel happier?
