My niece is 5 and in first grade. She already can read at a third grade level, as well as do addition and subtraction. She's unusually bright, but emotionally she's a normal 5 year old. In school she gets bored and talks out, and tell the teacher, "This work is too easy." She interrupts the class, makes faces, and so on. Time-outs don't have any affect on her; in fact she says she prefers them.

She went to a private kindergarten where she was in a small class and got a lot of attention. Now, in her first week in a private school, the teacher is exasperated and the mother is very upset. I suggested positive reinforcement -- rewarding good behavior, how is this done?

Please help if you have any experience with this. My sister (the mother) is afraid he daughter is never going to be able to rise above the bad first impression. She wants to meet with the teacher... what should she say?

p.s. The girl is already young for her grade, so advancing her to 2nd grade isn't an option.

How would you deal with being in a middle school where you feel lonely? Everyone has already formed little groups so it's hard for you to adjust. Not only that but everyone knows you so you can't go up to them and introduce yourself and try to make friends with them. And you really want someone to hang with at school so you don't get too lonely. Also, some of your friends from the year before had changed over the summer and they don't talk to you anymore. Even the people in your class has their own friends in the class and outside that they can hang and talk to, which just leaves you out.
This is your last year at this school but you want to make the most of it by actually having fun and enjoy having someone/people to hang with. What would you do about it?

OK not by himself. He is 5 yrs old we live in a quiet town. He and a friend who is in 3rd grade (and lives accross the street from us) would like to walk to school together. I have been walking with them every morning for 3 weeks. I'm torn. I don't want my baby getting taken or lost (even though school is 2 blks away) I don'twant him to get hit by a car. The child 3rd grader does look both ways each and every time as well as my son.

i'm a junior in high school, and everyone is required to do a graduation project. there's two parts- at 6-9 page paper and then an oral report/presentation. a lot of people are picking really cool topics for their project but i can't figure out one that i like and one that i think the judges will have interest in. i also want it to be something fun/interesting so that i won't be miserable while writing the paper and researching. maybe something art related would work because that's what i'm going into. thanks!

I am 16 years old and currentyly studying for the school certificate. I have always been very undisciplined when it comes to my school work, and it's gotten to the point where I no longer bother to complete essays and assignments simply because I am too lazy and apathetic. I truent school a lot (I've skipped a day of school nearly every week this term) with the intent to complete my school work, but I usually waste the time doing other things, so not only do I get in to trouble for not doing my school work but also for truenting. I have recieved a lot of letters from my school warning me that I am at risk of not recieving my school certificate if I don't complete my work (which I still haven't done) and complaining about my unexplained days off school (which I haven't told my parents about). I know there is no excuse for my behaviour, but does anyone have any suggestions to help me change my ways? The computer is a huge distraction, but I need it to do my work.

Its a private school that focuses alot on the children being polite and mindful.It really upset her,on her very first day of school-should I mention it to the teacher or let it slide unless it happens again.
