Biggest positives people cite are they avoid distraction, Prevents underpriveledged kids from feeling bad when they can't afford the "cool" new clothes, and helps instill some sense of discipline.
Biggest negatives people cite are they limit individuality, are less comfortable, and kids don't like them. Plus they still have that association with private schools and religion, which makes public schools wary.

A lot of people oppose school uniforms because they've been brainwashed by the mainstream liberal media and believe uniforms take away your individuality. Not true. School uniforms are beneficial because: (1) Children won't be criticized by other cruel, elitist children because they're not wearing the latest fashion, (2) Uniforms reinforce the idea that everyone who wears the uniform is a member of your team, and (3) It also emphasizes the idea that you're no better than the person next to you who is wearing the same uniform. Did I also mention the fact that schools find suppliers that make school uniforms much less expensive than designer jeans or name-brand clothes?

I like them because then I don't have to drag 2 nagging-a*s kids thru the mall complaining about what they can or can't buy.
I can go to 1 store, buy 5 of the same outfits and be done with it.
As a kid you should have an easier time figuring out what to wear in the morning. No one would be dressed 'better than you'.
Cynically, it prepares you for a life of corporate conformity - Dockers anyone?

I think they are a great idea! They keep everyone on an even playing field. No promiscuous clothing to distract everyone. I wish we had to wear uniforms when I was in school!

as a mom it is easier to have the uniforms
no one arguing about their clothes
as a kid they feel they lose their individuality
they're pros and cons to both sides.
