I am 16 years old and currentyly studying for the school certificate. I have always been very undisciplined when it comes to my school work, and it's gotten to the point where I no longer bother to complete essays and assignments simply because I am too lazy and apathetic. I truent school a lot (I've skipped a day of school nearly every week this term) with the intent to complete my school work, but I usually waste the time doing other things, so not only do I get in to trouble for not doing my school work but also for truenting. I have recieved a lot of letters from my school warning me that I am at risk of not recieving my school certificate if I don't complete my work (which I still haven't done) and complaining about my unexplained days off school (which I haven't told my parents about). I know there is no excuse for my behaviour, but does anyone have any suggestions to help me change my ways? The computer is a huge distraction, but I need it to do my work.

You need to tell your parents and soon. Maybe you have ADD or ADHD or some type of learning disability. You can be tested and helped with any of these. Do you want to go to college? If your answer is yes then things have to change ASAP. By all means go to school, TRY to work on getting better grades, and get the help you may need. Sometimes if you're not ready for college right away it's ok to take a year off 1st to gain some maturity and just give yourself a break. You'll need a job though so you're not sitting home at the computer all day. Good Luck!!!!

It is possible that your school assignments are not challenging you. They are probably very boring.

You might talk with a school counselor to determine if a more challenging or rewarding curriculum is needed. Be open and explain your thoughts and feelings. They are trained to help you but they need accurate information. Be honest. It will help them.

At any rate, you should not continue with your present behavior. It will follow you into later years. You will be sorry and embarrassed when you do not graduate with the people you grew up with. Your friends will leave you behind.

Imagine how you will feel when everyone is wearing caps and gowns, and you are home alone and wishing you were with them.

How will you feel in social situations when all your friends have their diplomas and are moving ahead, and you are the only one who does not?

Will you be attending all the graduation parties with them after your last year of high school? Or will you be too embarrassed because you did not graduate?

If nothing else, do what you need to do to get by.

I don't do my assignments either, last year i didn't hand on in until 2 terms later. anyway if the computer is a huge problem, when trying to do school work you stay away from the room the computer is in or unplug the computer while you are studying and doing assignments.

Make an appointement with the school counsellor (first call them anonymously just to inquire and ask them if there is any help for this, if you feel shy to do this). If that's not an option, get outside counselling. Just tell the counsellor what you've told us, and you are not too terribly interested in doing anything either. You'll be glad you did. It'll take over 5 sessions.

simple. do your work first, then play.
Not doing the work makes you feel bad about yourself, so you dont feel like doing anything.
We are all faced with the problem, people who have to drive the freeway then
work all day in an office.
I am hadicapped, can't walk
and some days I want to stay in bed but I have the discipline to move it out
cause I don't want to see and feelo the end result, in other words I like myself enough to continue the battle. And it is a battle
we can win, because the alternative is just oo unpleasant to even consider. Go for it. and good luck.

i may only me ten but i have and older sister and brother one 16 and one 18.

my brother used to hold off all of his work until the last day and he got bad grades and almost wasn't gonna graduate. he only got accepted to a community college which i think is really horrible.

so i say if you have a test do a little bit each night so you will know it

and for homework do it as soon as you get home and dont do anything else until it is done

You're right, definitely no excuse for that kind of behavior. And turst me I used to want to skip every day too, but didn't. The only way you can stop it is by being stubborn with yourself, make yourself get up and get ready for school. When you go to use the computer do what I did. I'd bring my homework over with me and do my homework while chatting with my friends online. It may take you longer to do your homework but hey, at least you'll get it done.

Do your freaking work!!! Turn off the distractions and go in a room where there is nothing else to do but your school work. If you don't learn discipline now how will you ever hold a job?

Oh I don't know. One thing that education achieves is to seperate out those who are dedicated and determined enough from those who are not. Only you can change. Just get on with it and do it. This is your future you're screwing up.
