My son's elementary school is limiting field trips. If they take one at all, it is usually just to a function within the city limits. Gone are the all day bus trips to the California Missions or other such educational destinations. I want to augment my son's educational experience by taking him to some of these places on my own. I am looking for ideas between San Francisco/Bakersfield and Sierra Mountains/Coast line. Where have you gone? Where have your children gone?

In most sentences we know to use "farther" when we are refering to distance, almost always physical distance. Likewise, we are taugh to use "further" when "one 'furthers' his/her education"--something not physical in nature. Here's my specific example where I am confused: I mix hawaiian punch flaver with cherry or strawberry and the kids never notice. I said to my husband I wanted to make the Kool-aid "go farther" but then I realized I was not refering to distance. I am going with "farther" because it makes more Kool-aid which goes farther with the kids. What do you think? Thanks, Robin

Well.. just as i expected, i learned today that i'll be repeating this year(first year of high school) in school.

Probably, everyone in this situation would think what kind of failure are themselves. I, however, am not feeling sad at all. Why should i be?Why expect a better result when i wasn't a good student? No one can run away from reality.Instead, i am sort of hopeful because i think of this as an oppurtunity to correct my mistakes and fortunately graduate with a better score. Of course it has some disadventages, i'll be with 15 year olders for the rest of my school life, i'll lose a somewhat fine oppurtunity in the college test at the end of high school-which is a long story and is not necessary to be explained here-, but i guess it's in my hand to see these(and etc.) as adventages.
Do you think this is really losing 1 year in life?
No one can be sure what the future holds..Since everyone is different, maybe this is what will make me a better person.
Just say something useful.

Can anyone provide a list or guide for words that first graders are supposed to learn how to spell? I'm trying to create some lesson plans for first graders but I am not sure what sort of words should be on the spelling lists or how they should be organized. Are there any online resources that can provide this?

I went to visit my little sister yesterday to help her with school work, I noticed that she is un-naturually slow at her work, I thought it was odd so I had her read out loud aswell. She reads very slow I'm not sure if she understands what she reads.I want to help her so she doesn't fall behind.

what do you suggest that I can do to help her read at a normal pace, is there any software or books that I should get?

is her first experience with school, no pre-school. What kind of problems did you experience and what was the outcome? She is a very smart little girl but has trouble with doing things in class, writing on chalkboard in marker, being scared to flush toilet, always running up to teacher saying hi and interupting. Any help would be greatly appreicated.

Hello all...I am thinking of becoming a mime as a career choice. I have purchased a striped shirt, black pants, a beret and white blush with a deep, dark red lipstick. I have been practicing being trapped in a box and gazing into store windows. Does anyone know where the best training could be provided for this illustrious ambition? I have even gone to Paris, but to no avail.
