Can anyone provide a list or guide for words that first graders are supposed to learn how to spell? I'm trying to create some lesson plans for first graders but I am not sure what sort of words should be on the spelling lists or how they should be organized. Are there any online resources that can provide this?

I'm not a teacher. I'm doing this to help a friend who is designing a tutoring program. We are complete amateurs at this, so cut us some slack, please. :-)

I would suggest getting a 1st grade speller. It may help even more if you can get one from the school. If they cannot give you one you can get the title and then order one. Holcomb's is a good teacher store where you can find this sort of thing.

It may not be a good idea to start a program that you have not researched or learned how to do. I list of spelling words is probably the last thing you will need on the list. Have you even visited a teachers' store? There are 1000's of books to choose from with plans already developed and even someone who knows nothing about tutoring could follow them. Study before you move forward. Go to the curriculum section of a library and spend the day reading some of the literature and books that are abvailable. You will see what I mean.

gosh, your school should have provided that for you. ask your mentor teacher, department head, supervisor, or whoever you need to. you could also go to the bookstore and find a good first-grade spelling book. Scholastic makes great lesson plan books. Good luck!
