I'm 52, so it's been a long time since I was in school, but back then the school furnished all our textbooks and supplies and now I hear teachers are having to buy supplies with their own money and students are given a list of stuff they have to buy for school,
and textbook chapters are being copied and handed out because the school cant afford to give students textbooks.
What happened? And what do poor kids do that cant afford to buy all that stuff?

Do you believe parents should have the choice of where to send their children or should they be forced to go where the government assigns them?

Are we becoming so focused with teaching our children so much in academics that we have decided not to pay attention to things like family, friends or expressing themselves? Why can't they do more work in classrooms and leave home/family time more free?

Should there be homework on holidays?

Should we speak up or start a movement!?

Studies have shown that if we give our children too much homework over time, they will do worse on standardized testing! (All grades apply)

I just started the school year and I can't get a hold of the chemistry ap book because the school says they ran out.
Its causing me a lot of trouble. I've been staying up late because i have to keep making phone calls to friends and photocopying and looking up information online because I dont have a textbook infront of me when I NEED one to do the homework. I've been staying up until about.. 5:30 in the morning doing homework. Which only gives me 30 minutes of sleep. so... I'm pretty miserable. :(

I asked my school if I could have a book but they told me that I couldnt have one unless another student drops the class and gives up their book.

I just want to know..

IS THIS LEGAL? is my public high school required by law to provide me with the textbooks I need for my classes instead of just WAITING to see if someone's going to drop out of the class?

My parents pay taxes do they not..?

for seat belts in the buses, grown men have to buckle up by law, but little children don't have to, and don't even have the opportunity to do so, that's a disgrace.

My son's 16, an honor roll student. He also has Asperger's, social anxiety, ADD & depression. He's excelled academically through the help of a very good therapist, meds, sheer will & hard work. But his perfectionistic tendencies also work against him and cause him greater anxiety, as his work and pace is extremely slow.

School's just started, and I can tell he's already in trouble. He's taking HOURS to finish homework because he can't focus, is so disorganized now, and panics. I can also tell his depression's bad because he's been sleeping a LOT and stays in his room most of the time. He gets little pleasure out of anything; yet, he is a wonderful young man. Teachers have always loved him because he's studious, respectful & quiet.

At age 10 my son was suicidal. His behavior now is similar. I was afraid to send him to school today. Do I have a right to get him a home tutor while we work through this? He has an IEP and special helps at school, but right now that's not enough.
