i'm a junior in high school, and everyone is required to do a graduation project. there's two parts- at 6-9 page paper and then an oral report/presentation. a lot of people are picking really cool topics for their project but i can't figure out one that i like and one that i think the judges will have interest in. i also want it to be something fun/interesting so that i won't be miserable while writing the paper and researching. maybe something art related would work because that's what i'm going into. thanks!

Can this topic be anything or are there guidelines?

If it can be anything, then why don't you pick something that's related to a hobby or interest of yours.

In a photography class, I once had to do a photo-journalism project, where I had to pick a subject to take lots of interesting photos of. I live in St. Louis, and my Dad did a lot of traveling around the area for his job and had discovered many other Arches like the St. Louis Arch, so I did a project documenting all of them. It turned out really cool, and I got a good grade.

In an English class I had to do a research paper. I chose the old St. Louis brewing family, the Lemps. I chose this topic because there are a lot of ghostly rumors about their mansion, which is now a bar/restaurant and a bed and breakfast. The family had a lot of tragedy, and there are supposed to many ghosts in the mansion which also used to be a boarding house. It was a really fun subject, and certainly alleviated the boredom that a research paper brings.

So maybe you can pick a subject that interests you, and then , for example if you paint, then you can do a small series of paintings that relate to your subject. Also, if I had to do a project similar to yours, I would usually do poetry, and that always went over well.

Good luck!

My sister restored some old furniture for her senior project.... She sanded down an old desk, painted it and on the top hutch she attached sheet metal to the back so you can hang stuff up with magnets. Her project turned out really cool and the furniture came in handy when she moved out on her own. My sis is really artsy, she ended up going to an Art Institute for college, you sound very similar to her :)

Good Luck with your project.... If you decide to go with the restoring furniture idea let me know, I can get you more details and pics of her finished project :)

I'd go with your idea. Unless you want to do something about global warming or something =]
