i've heard that it really pulls your grades down and it is only good if you plan to pursue career in science or maths . . . otherwise, it's not very useful at all. and i've also heard that some universities don't recognise IB grades as superior (for example, 80% in IB equals to a 90% in regular academic courses). i'm in pre-IB this year and going into actual IB next year . . . should i continue with IB?

Currently I am a sophmore at a Jesuit school and I am starting to get intersted in colleges. I have a 3.75 gpa out of 4 and I am taking the maximum number of Ac/AP classes my school will allow. I am interested in schools such as UVa, Duke, Cornell, Boston College, Notre Dame and Georgetown. I play one sport and will be a member of the NHS. I should also be an Eagle Scout.

Does any one have any experience in admissions that could shed some light on what I need to improve on to get into one of those great schools? Or has anyone attended any of these schools and what was your resume like when applying?

Hi, I got a D- one semester in Alg. 2 with Trig my sophmore year. It was an anomaly, because I was having some personal problems that semester. However, most of my other grades are really good. My cumulative GPA is 3.6 unweighted for 10th and 11th, and my SAT score is a 2010 with a perfect score in critical reading. I also participated in the youth summer program at Stanford where I took a class the summer before junior year.

Is there any way I can get into Stanford? How about any UCs?

I'm a senior so it's a little too late to retake that semester.

Does anyone know if it's possible to quit one's job and become a full time student?
I'm working full time and going to college part time, but if I keep it up at this pace, It will take me the same amount of time to get my bachelors, that it takes someone to go through become a doctor.
What I would like is to be able to become a full time student and dedicate myself to nothing but my studies.
Does anyone know of a way or have any advice on how to become a full time student and still get by with things like rent and food?

Would it be a Degree of Mechanical Engineering? That's what I've heard the requirements for working at Barrett, the people who make the M82A1 .50 Caliber Sniper. I'm interesting in designing bullets and weapons and was just wondering what my major in college should be

I recently audited a class as an adult just for fun and personal growth. While the professor was actually pretty normal, when he was absent, his graduate assistant would just go on and on about how she was "so socialist that she was almost communist" I just thought it was laughable, but there were a lot of impressionable younger students in the class that seemed taken by her passion.

After mentioning this to friends as a conversation piece, I have been told that this type of indoctrination is quite common in many university settings. Why and how pervasive is this nonsense?

If I would like to become an alcohol and drug counselor, would I only need my A.A Degree from my local community college. In their catalog, it says that after an A.S. is earned, there are plenty of job opportunities available. Is this true? Is it a safe career? And does it pay well?

I'm not sure what exactly I want to study in school. I love science, animals, kids, and medicine, but can't decide which direction to go. I hope that my major will lead me on to a job that I can support myself with, but what's the best choice? What major will help me in finding the best job? Any suggestions?

-A- average
-National Honors Society
-top 30% of class, but is steadily improving after poor performance in my freshman 2nd semester
-taking honors classes
-take part in debate team at high school
-legacy (grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle went to Harvard- grandfather has donated thousands to the school, served on admissions board, and was class leader)

Again, I just barely starting the second quarter of the first semester at the high school. I am trying harder than ever and I plan on participating in more extracurriculars and raising my GPA and class rank.

Right now I am U of M student who was a transfer student, i had to withdraw this semester because I was not doing good in physics, o. chem, and calculus. When I compared the syllabus, homework assignments, and exams that was taken there was a big significant process. It seems that the work that I was doing in which I was getting a D or F would have been enough to get me a B+ or A- grade. I also realize it is best to get a 3.5 - 3.7 at a top 30-50 school than to get less than a 3.0 at a top 5 school and possibly withdrew from too much courses or fail courses.

Or can I just go to a christian college for two years and then do four years at a college that offers animal science?

I think the Ivy League schools and private schools are better than state schools where anyone can get in and many of the students are distractions who party all the time and drink too much. If you look at the most crime ridden schools and the biggest party schools, they are public universities. If I went to college, I would want peace and quiet and be around rich and well mannered, upper class people. But with a 3.5 GPA, which is low, I don't see a future in any of the Ivy League's or at many private universities.
