i've heard that it really pulls your grades down and it is only good if you plan to pursue career in science or maths . . . otherwise, it's not very useful at all. and i've also heard that some universities don't recognise IB grades as superior (for example, 80% in IB equals to a 90% in regular academic courses). i'm in pre-IB this year and going into actual IB next year . . . should i continue with IB?

If you are planning on applying to elite universities, it may be useful because most want to see that you were enrolled in the most rigorous courses available at your school. I've never heard of anyone calculating the grades differently, so if that was all you were concerned about, then maybe not, but you should be trying to challenge yourself in high school.

Dude, it's better to earn a "B" in an IB course than an "A" in a standard college-prep course. College admission officers like to see you challenge yourself (GPA and difficulty of curriculum are the 2 most important qualifications they look at when deciding to accept you or not).

If want to improve your chances for getting accepted to your favorite college, I say to sign up for IB program. Good luck.
