Would it be a Degree of Mechanical Engineering? That's what I've heard the requirements for working at Barrett, the people who make the M82A1 .50 Caliber Sniper. I'm interesting in designing bullets and weapons and was just wondering what my major in college should be

Yes, it would it be a degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a Minor in Chemistry.

I was recruited by the government for weapons research with a master's degree in computer science, but probably would have been paired with mechanical engineers, civil engineers, chemists, physicists and others. I assume that my job would have been modeling their calculations. Never made it that far because I did not want to move to their location in New Mexico.

Best bet would be to call some of the companies who make the arms and ask what skills they look for and, very important, what colleges they recruit from. I doubt they are going to be hanging out at some of the very left-leaning campuses. I was recruited from Texas A&M, which is very conservative and still has something like 3000 members in the corps of cadets. Defense related companies get a much more receptive audience there.

Boy, talk about frightening career goals! But yes, I would think that mechanical engineering would be the right major for that.
