I got a 2290 on the SATs (1540 on SATs 1600), my GPA is 4.75. Both my parents work there, and my sister graduated from Columbia (which I am told is an advantage. I have done high school soccer all 4 years, and volleyball for 3. I was on varsity for senior year for both sports. I tutor after school. Does anyone know what my chances are for getting into Columbia?

I have a 2:1 degree in Ancient and Medieval History (2001). I originally wanted to work in the museums/heritage sector.

It has never helped me get a job. I applied for loads of history related jobs but the competition is so fierce I rarely even got to interview stage - plus was additionally held back by my not being bilingual with Welsh (I live in Wales).

The village where I live recently had an opening for a heritage officer. I aplpied and didn't even get shortlisted for interview! I guess there was too much competition, I don't know.

I've done several dead end office jobs and callcentre jobs and am now at home with my 11 month old baby.

I need to start thinking about finding work but I have no idea what to look for. I feel I should get some training or further study but can't afford to fund it.

I have very little confidence as far as applying for jobs. I need some feasible ideas of what I could do.

Will I get a good job (pay 75,000+) with a 3.0 and medium-low involvement in extracurricular activities? The thing is, I am might have a few connections to jobs because of my father. Every job I had (summer jobs) was due to my father. I am a dedicated person as my past co-workers will tell you. If I work alongside with some reputable international traders after college, will i have an even better chance of getting a higher paying job (250,000+)?

I'm a high school senior and I'm applying to college this weekend and it says whether I'm applying as a part time or full time student?

I seriously don't know. I know the difference between them is the credits and all that but...

does a part time student graduate later...?
what if i want to work?

how often/when/ do each go to school?

Another Q about applying. I was born in America but it says:

date you became a resident of this state?
is that my birthday - i just filled out my birth date?

I studied hard for a year, only to utterly fail my maths exam (worth 50 % of my marks) and as a result I have spoiled any chance of getting into university.
How can I be successful now? I'm reallly disapointed in myself. How can I perk myself up for my next exam, knowing how I have failed the system?

I've been observing that universities tend to have professors do both research and teach. In reality, most of the professors would rather spend all of their time researching.

The problem lies in that fact that teacher's assistants frequently do most of the teaching, especially in larger universities (the research powerhouses). I think this would degrade the quality of education that students get.

So, I believe that we should have mixed universities with dedicated teachers, and some part teacher, part researcher professors. Dedicated teachers to improve education quality, but some researchers becuase it offers oppurtunities to university students.

Any thoughts?

I'm a senior in high school and I've always wondered:

Why does society make it hard to get a career without a college degree? Why make college so expensive if you want us to go so bad? I know there are scholarships out there and financial aid or whatever, but what about the people who can't get either? What are your thoughts?

I am a straight A student, I rank 15th out of 850 students, I am treasurer of NHS, and I am involved with many other community service projects and organizations. I have been involved with athletics for all four years of highschool as well, and I was named first-team academic all state for volleyball. I scored a 31 composite on my ACT and a perfect score on the English section; however, I did not do as well on my SATs and I did not retake them because I scored so well on the ACT. I recently had my Harvard alumni interview and I feel that it went very well. I am from Indiana and Harvard only receives about 30 applications each year from my state and I am studying politics which not many kids in IN study . I am a triplet so I believe that it makes me stand out. However, I am still worried about my SAT scores and I really want to know truthfully if I have a chance of getting in. Will they look at my ACT score over the SAT score; what are my chances of being accepted? Thanks!!!
