I am a straight A student, I rank 15th out of 850 students, I am treasurer of NHS, and I am involved with many other community service projects and organizations. I have been involved with athletics for all four years of highschool as well, and I was named first-team academic all state for volleyball. I scored a 31 composite on my ACT and a perfect score on the English section; however, I did not do as well on my SATs and I did not retake them because I scored so well on the ACT. I recently had my Harvard alumni interview and I feel that it went very well. I am from Indiana and Harvard only receives about 30 applications each year from my state and I am studying politics which not many kids in IN study . I am a triplet so I believe that it makes me stand out. However, I am still worried about my SAT scores and I really want to know truthfully if I have a chance of getting in. Will they look at my ACT score over the SAT score; what are my chances of being accepted? Thanks!!!

It sounds like you are qualified to get in. But you really have to do something to stand out.

Harvard only accepts 8% of its applicants. If we assume that half the people who apply are qualified (and I suspect it is higher), then 84% of the QUALIFIED applicants will be rejected.

The interview and your admissions essays are two things where you can make yourself stand out. It is great that your interview went well.

So -- the bad news is that even though you are qualified, the odds are against you. The good news is that you will certainly get into some good schools. Apply to a few of the other Ivy League schools. Penn may be a good fit for you. Also apply to a few of the Ivy Equivalents -- like Duke, Chicago and Northwestern. Stanford is as tough as Harvard -- so it might not be worth the cost (e.g., you will either get into both or neither). Apply to one or two of the better state schools -- Michigan, Virginia, UNC or Berkeley are all possibilities for you.

Good luck

They are good, but you need to calm down, there is little youy can do now to change the outcome of your application so relax, search for a back up school you like and hope you dont have to go there. But no mater what take a breather, you sound very wound-up (understandably, college is a huge step in life). GOOD LUCK and relax and let life take you where it wants!

Pretty slim. You need at least 33 or 34 on ACT and 2300+ on SAT to even be considered. THEN, the rest makes you stand out.
