The requirements for those honors depend completely on the university. For example, at my undergraduate school -- it was completely dependent on overall GPA. But at another school that I went to, students needed a high GPA and also had to write an undergraduate thesis.

I doubt that you will qualify to graduate with honors with an overall GPA of 3.3. However, that GPA in you major may get you into a good graduate school -- and that is better in the long run.

Overall GPA. Though having a high GPA in your major will look really good on a resume, especially if you plan to continue on to Graduate School.
