I work at Hooters right now because there is not much where i live and that is the first place i got a job, because i need money for figure skating, my mom doesn't care, but i am worried about college. I am 18 and I will be graduating soon. I am a valedictorian and have many scholarships. I have never been in trouble with the law or school. I am just worried what they will think. i have teacher comments and everything, but is that enough. Even if they do accept me, will they look at me funny or judge?? your opinon. I want to major in law and minor in interior design and fashion design. What do you think???

First of, how does a doctorate student prepare for the oral defense. Is there anything a student needs to keep in mind when going into the defense room? Is the Ph.D. thesis like a trial, where it is you versus them? This quesstion is for students that have gone through the defense: were you nervous and did you studdor or mumble during the defense? Did you pass anyway?

although i know it is a decision i am going to have to make for myself, i wanted some advice on what i should major in. my whole life i've always been a writer and its been a passion of mine. there are great schools to go to (i live in southern california) that have creative writing majors but i feel like there is nothing i can really do with a degree in writing; everyone can write.

at my community college, i registered with my major as being "communications: writing for film, tv, and radio" but there are not that many schools with screenwriting majors, plus it would be so hard to break into "the biz"

recently i've become obsessed with interior design and was thinking of persuing that instead, but there are only really art schools to go to.

my parents never went to college so i feel like i deserve a real education. what should i do?

I was really excited to get accepted into graduate school for this coming fall...it's been 2 years since I finished my undergraduate studies...however, once the horrible events occurred at Virginia Tech, every time I think about sitting in class, I worry about a gunman coming in and shooting at random. Every time I walk on campus now to run errands, I look at the buildings and imagine a shooting going on. It's driving me crazy. I loved campus as an undergrad, and a shooting was the farthest thing in my mind. Now it's the only thing I think about as August approaches. I'm going to a large, public university and a shooting could definitely happen here. What are the odds of being a victim in a shooting like VT? How can you prevent your chances of being shot in class? I'm going crazy worrying about this and I want desperately to feel excited when I think about school, not scared. I'm afraid my view of college campuses has been forever tainted by what happened at VT.

How much work is involved in being a humanities minor? I want to major in history and minor in humanities but I need to know how much time I should save for each one. I was going to double major but figured that I would get enough out of two, so I will just focus on one. I also want to go to med school.

Also, is it a good idea to major in History while minoring in Humanities? Or are they pretty much the same thing? I want to minor and major in two completely different subjects as long as it's not science. I plan on going to med school, therefore please no science.

I go to college soon...and i've never taken chemistry. I'm planning on going pre-med, but i fear that this lack of knowledge will inhibit me. I take chem first semester, and figured i would prepare a little bit before hand. So, I bought the idiots guide to chemistry. However, now i have so many questions that need answering, and i feel so overwhelmed.

Is there any hope for me? I really want to make the most out of college.

I tried getting into Yale, Standford, and Harvard, during my senior year, but i didn't get in. I had a 4.4 gpa and a 32 on the ACT and a 2150 on the SAT (damn English!!!!) also 720 on Chem and 800 in math 2. So I will be attending USC (Southern California) this fall and plan on majoring in Chemical Engineering (Biochemical). I just finished summer classes and received A's in Chem 1 and Calc 1 ( that's all I took). If i get a 4.0 my first year do you think ill have a chance of getting in? ps im a minority (hispanic)

hey,
I know this is a horrible question to ask to an online forum, but I really need all the advise I can get. I'm about to be a sophomore at CU Boulder, and I'm considering going to the Front Range community college in my home town for a year to finish up my gen. ed. classes. The reason being it will save my parents about 10-15K. I still get to move out, and I can work full time while going to school if I go to front range! But I will have to drop out of the university and then go back next year to finish the last two years of my degree. I have the same amount of friends in both places, and it's really the same to me.

What would you guys do???

I've attempted admission to a few culinary schools in my area (NE USA) but the schools wont allow me to attend unless I remove my piercings (I have 22 holes in my head - it usually takes 2hrs, another person and a pair or pliers to remove). I've been looking into Le Cordon Bleu in London, will they allow me to attend without removing my piercings? much thanks!
