do universities hire doctors or just athletic trainers?

i want to be a doctor in sports medicine and i thought it would be cool to work at a university...

do they just hire athletic trainers, or do they also have doctors??

Most universities have doctors, but I'm not familiar with any that hire them in sports medicine, specifically. Generally, unless they have a medical center, they use more internal medicine doctors, since the bulk of the work is dealing with things other than athletic injuries. When athletes are injured, they get taken off-campus if what they need exceeds the trainers' ability to handle it.
